Can't beat it for the price

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, SC Written on March 3, 2014
I bought this for an AR I built out of spare parts to beat...I was surprised that I actually liked it because I hadn't had any experience with this particular brand. Works great and is very cost effective.
Pros: easy to zero to the weapon, functionally sound
Cons: if the battery starts to go it may give intermittent disappearing crosshairs...

Better than I expected

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, WA Written on October 22, 2012
I do not have the magnifier, so this review will only be of the optic itself. I bought this with low expectations. I needed a temporary optic on my 5.56 AR-15. I liked the ACOG style more than the other cheap options and I had read some good reviews. I really liked the reticle, even though there was a little ghosting on very close inspection.

So I took it to the range and sighted it in. To my surprise, it held zero. I've had it for over a year and I haven't felt the need to upgrade.

Like most of my sights, I would recommend this IF you are buying it for its intended purpose. That is a cheap sight for range shooting, possibly hunting in close ranges (brush, etc.), or airsoft. This was not designed for combat. I have not tested this in extreme weather (heat or cold). I have not submersed it in water or beaten it against a rock. I wouldn't recommend that you do that either. If you want a combat optic so you can swim 30 feet under water and assault an Arctic oil rig like a Navy SEAL, get an ACOG/Aimpoint/EOTech, etc. If you want a good range/hunting/airsoft sight, this one is just fine. There are other options in the same price range that are just as good.

As for you airsofters, I used to play and I beat my gear pretty hard. I played for several years in some pretty harsh environments and I saw good gear stay together and bad gear fall apart. I would say that my old airsoft gear got a lot more beating and abuse than most product reviewers put their gear t...

Barska M16 Electro Sight

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, WA Written on October 11, 2012
I mounted this sight on my Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22. This is a .22 caliber so I figured this sight could handle that. There were plenty of good reviews along with some bad, guess I got a bad one. It mounted easily, looked great and was very simple to sight in. I actually like the adjustment knobs wit the aluminum caps. Everything was just great for the first 500-600 rounds, then it went south real fast. At first I would take a shot and the center red dot would disappear, take another shot and it would reappear, then it started to happen to other dots on the horizontal part of the reticle. Then I started getting a red glare or shadowy affect on the inside top of the sight, then all of my shots at 100 yards were about 4-6 inches to the left. I'm sure they were off at 50 as well, I didn't try. Obviously something in there came loose, there is no way this thing can handle recoil of anything larger than a .22, it didn't even do very well with that. I ended up going with the 4x28 IR electro, I'll see how that one does. All Barska reticles in their red dot sights are really horrible, canted reticles, double dots, ghost images. YUK... The 4x28 so far looks good, I like that it has a standard mil non lighted reticle. I haven't shot it yet, sight it in this weekend.
Pros: Price, easy set up.
Cons: Horrible electronics, can't handle recoil....

first impression

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, WA Written on July 11, 2012
I purchased this scope with the magnifier for my mini 14. I have replaced the original wood stock with an ATI polymer tactical stock. The picatinny rail that came with the ATI is not compatable with this set up. I managed to get both units installed on the rail but they are too far forward and therefore un-usable. I have the the scope on and I am trying to figure out if there is a way that I can mount the magnifier somehow. Kind of a bummer! I purchased this setup at Gander Mountain. I told the clerk it was for a mini 14 with an ATI tactical stock but I guess he didn't know that it wouldn't work!!!!!!
Pros: looks neat and mounted easily on my mini 14
Cons: ran into problem with ATI replacement stock...
