Better than average quality

by Legacy Reviewer, Written on August 30, 2010
This is my third bino of this type manufactured at Kunming, China.
The two other brands have the pretty bad and cheap ruby coatings and one of them a plastic bag which emits a feculent smell of chemical substances. The Barska has none of these troubles. The coatings are certainly not the best available, reflect apparently quite much light, but are much better as the similar binos with ruby coated lenses of Meade and Tasco. There are not less than ten pieces or rubber armor over both barrels, which means o lot of silicone joints that are not always cleanly worked. The transparent silicone joints are quite everywhere visible.

But the Barska is clearly the best choice for this type of Marine Binoculars because it has the better optics, the better quality control and collimation and the better bag (with Tasco).
The focusing of the eyepiece do not work especially smooth, but just even a little bit too hard to be qualified as comfortable. The depth of sharpness is really great, you can see sharp between 300 and 1000 feet without focusing.
The image is crisp over nearly 60 % of the visual field. Visible vignetting, fuzziness and distortions at the edges, but at an acceptable extent.
The light transmission is in my opinion quite moderate. You should not expect performances after sunset like a Zeiss victory 8x56 which is ten times more expensive, but I would estimate only 10 % less.
By daylight, the Barska shows a crisp and splendid image with vivid colors.
The viewing is d...

Great Open Sea Binoculars

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, WA Written on February 12, 2010
I purchased the binoculars for nautical use. I used them on a whale watching trip. Had 5-6 foot swells, but was able to use binoculars with little effort. The reason I gave a 4 for easy to set up and usability is based on the lack of user-friendly instructions for the rangefinder. Eventually I will figure it out. All-in-all, I really like the binoculars.
Pros: Works great on the open sea. Floats. Durable.
Cons: No good instructions on how to use range finder. Caps for upper and lower lenses are loose and don't stay on very well....

First binoculars.

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, MA Written on October 29, 2007
I bought these binoculars for 50 percent off. The rangefinder is similar to what I found in the military - hence the reason for selecting this model.
Quality is high, but I am no professional. When I goto a store and pick up a 35 dollar pair of 7x50 binos they give a great image too.
I am still searching for what the power button is for.
Pros: optic quality, craftsmanship
Cons: no instructions, broken compass....

Barska 7x50 mm Deep Sea WP Binoculars AB10798

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, WA Written on July 30, 2007
These binos are amazing! I was on a ship cruise and dropped them in the water by complete accident. I did not know that they would float. After I got them out of the water, I checked for damages and nothing was wrong with the Binocular! If you're a person who tends to drop binoculars and spend a lot of time on the 7 seas, then these are for you!
You can view things underwater too!
This product gets my recomadation without a second thought!...

No instruction manual

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, CA Written on July 29, 2007
The package doesn't contain any instruction manuals for how to use this pair of binoculars. The Barska website doesn't have the information either. This is very frustrating....
