File to fit is required, and WAS EXPECTED when I purchased this mount.
People should have done their research before doing this job so they knew what to expect.
30 minutes using care with a Dremel got it to fit so the retainer pin would slide in with a purposely VERY snug fit (to retain zero). Take your time, remove a small amount at a time, check the pin fit often.
The short raised pads inside the bolt cover guide grooves were then taken down a little so the action worked smoothly, and the bolt cover didn't drag.
There are more stable mounts on the market if you want to have to fit, drill, and then tap your receiver to get it all together.
These SKS rifles were made with many different tools in several countries. This mount with its file-to-fit procedure makes sure it gets a tight fit all the various manufacturers rifles with all the varying tolerances in manufacturing.
There's nothing wrong with these mounts, look on YouTube for videos on what you need to do.
The scope is by no means a top of the line Leupold, but its very decent, and MUCH better than the old iron battle sights for target shooting, and the mount is also designed for see-through use for the iron sights.
If I had a second SKS, I'd buy a second one of these Barska sets.
The ONLY thing that I dislike is the rough finish on the cover. My SKS has all decently polished metal. The cover has an "as cast" texture to it.
