Hard to take Barska seriously after this

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, IA Written on August 27, 2012
First off gotta say that I have always had GREAT service from opticsplanet and I do not hold them responsible for this pooper scooper of a product, I have bought plenty of good products from them and they deliver on time. Now on to the review:
I bought this unit last year and up until a couple of weeks ago, I had spent about 2 total accumulated hours hours calling, emailing and (trying to) speak with Barska regarding a repair, replacement, or ANYTHING to cover my tail on this ridiculous piece of junk. I am taking the time today to write this review because not only did Barska repeatedly ignore my polite, concise and reasonable requests for compensation or repair, but mainly because the design on this thing is so unbelievably poor that it boggles the mind. After studying exchange rates on Chinese products and shipping, you will discover that it costs about 35 cents US to ship a product from China to the US, and it is equally cheap to manufacture/sell inexpensive gadgetry to the US from China because, well, they control the dollar. So paying over $50 for this piece of China junk is like plopping down $1000 for a toaster oven that burns your toast and will not eject the toast and catches on fire.

Bottom line - the threads that adjust the laser are set in soft plastic and the laser unit rides in a simple rubber grommet against spring tension. The tiny set screws ran out of adjustment for me before the laser came anywhere close to being adjusted correctly, and if you fiddle l...

A lot for your Money

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, CT Written on August 2, 2012
For those of us who don't want to spend $150 to $500 for a light and/or laser, especially for a plinker, Barska is a inexpensive unit that slides and locks easily on a rail setup. Alignment is done with an included allen wrench, best part: batteries included. Overall: a great combo unit that's well constructed and well worth the money!
Pros: Very bright light and laser
Cons: none...

great light

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, MO Written on December 31, 2011
I bought this for the light it's very bright lightweight and great for home safety. The laser is over two inches from the barrel which makes it inaccuratein at close range. If you want a bright light for your pistol you cannot do better for the price.
Pros: light is a very bright and it is easy to install
Cons: laser is difficult to adjust...

Addendum to prior review

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner Written on October 31, 2011
After having and using this unit for awhile now, I am very happy with this product. The laser holds it's zero VERY WELL, even when shooting +P rounds out of my H&K USP45. Zeroing the laser was very easy and it has remained rock solid.
The flashlight is 170 Lumens focused into a fairly tight spot beam. DO NOT ever look directly into this flashlight. You will see spots for a couple of hours after exposure. It is VERY BRIGHT. Nearly a "face melter".
The only con I can think of besides the useless touch-pad is the lack of a strobe function. For the price, however, it is not a huge deal.
The two CR123A batteries kept their charge reasonably well. Better then I expected actually, because, I use the flashlight and laser at the same time. I thought it would seriously limit the usefulness of the batteries. However, they worked longer than I expected.
I'd recommend this product even with it's minor cons.
Pros: ease of set-up and use
Cons: remote switch is still virtually useless and no strobe function...

A good value, but, with caveats...

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner Written on October 6, 2011
I would recommend this unit, if, and only if, you do not absolutely need that useless remote switch. Fortunately, if you shoot right handed, the switch is a moot point anyway.
The set-up was easy. And, I mounted it on my H&K USP 45, which needs an additional adapter for set-up. Still, it was a breeze.
The remote switch... OW! It refuses to stay seated. It is set-up the same way your headphones plug into your Ipod. Only problem is, it doesn't seat very well. Heck, it hardly stays plugged in at all. Mine continually fell out while I was trying to mount the touch pad to my pistol grip.
Pros: eas of set-up, use, and, excellent laser and light
Cons: remote switch is virtually useless...

No accuracy

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, GA Written on October 4, 2011
bought for a cheap laser/light package on my Sprngfld XD. package arrived and the batteries were dead, not a big deal went and bough some new ones and went straight to the range. The laser would not rise enough to mark the target. So I sent it back hoping it was just a faulty set screw. When the new one came in, same problem. The flashlight is actually spot on with the bullet strike location but the red dot will not any closer than 18-20" below the bullet strike. For the price i know the red dot is low and have learned to aim low with it but would not buy if i had none this issue.
Pros: bright light, compact package, bright laser
Cons: laser will not adjust to proper level on pistol application...

Update to previous review

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, WI Written on August 18, 2011
I previously stated how pleased I was with this product. Well, this was before I fired my gun with it on. Everytime I fire the battery cover falls off and the battery falls out. This would be unacceptable if you needed this item for home protection or other wise. You'd fire once and then you wouldn't be able to see your target but he would know where you were at. I called Barska and there was no one to talk to, just a answering machine. So I left a message which never got returned. So now I am stuck with an expensive flashlight with a pointer on it. I did not try to return it to opticsplanet because it was after the 30 days of purchase, which I think they require within 30 days.

Anyway, don't buy this unless you don't mind picking up the batteries everytime you shoot.
Pros: Cheap
Cons: Falls apart when you fire your weapon...

Great Bang for the Buck

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, WI Written on July 15, 2011
I usually don't leave reviews, but felt compelled to leave one on this product. In fact, this may be my first review ever.

For the price this light/laser does exactly what it's supposed to. It is like the TLR-2 for a fraction of the price. Better yet it comes with the pressure switch that would cost you $60 on top of the $240 price tag of the TLR.

The light will light up a dark room and the laser works great inside no matter the time of the day, I have not tried it outside yet.

My only complaint is that there is no strobe function but for the price, I can live without it.

The quality of it is good for my use, home defense, but am sure for tactical use, the more expensive ones would be better. Some of the components you can tell were cheaply made, but they work. When spending $60, it is what I expected.

The laser adjustment bottomed out but luckily it stopped adjusting right where I needed it on my application, a Mossberg 500 Tactical Chainsaw.

When I first took it out of the package the batteries were already in it and did not work. It must have been a return. I went to Wal-Mart and got new batteries and it still did not work. This led me to look more closely at it and found that the spring that pushes on the negative side of the battery was bent and was not making contact. I bent that back and it worked like a charm. Now I have back up batteries is the bright side of this story.

I just received it today so I cannot give a long term report ...
