Impressive

by Legacy Reviewer, Written on February 16, 2014
I bought these boots about a year and a half ago. They are impressively tough. Wearing them about 50 hours a week and they lasted much longer than I could of expected for the money. I'm from Canada and let me tell you these were good not bad for the snow/ice we get up here. Only problem I could see is the cushioning inside of the boot. It's all worn out on the sides and on the heel which makes it not so comfortable. I believe there are patches available on the market, just haven't looked yet. Other thing is the sole started coming off. Since I've been waxing it regularly, I superglued the whole thing back on and I hope it'll last me another year!
Pros: Tough, comfortable, fairly priced
Cons: Could add side and heel cushioning, bad snow traction once it wears out...

Better than expected

The very first impression was positive when I saw these had a Vibrant sole. I have always had positive results with hiking gear from Vibrant. However right off the bat with the first wear I was sure I was going to have to return them. The left boot felt as though it had a line running right down the middle of it. I took out the insoles and they felt flat. So I bought some Dr. Scholls and it took care of the problem. The boot broke in very fast and is comfortable as I have worn them, which is as a street shoe. I have yet to put any real milage on them from the trail. With the Dr. Scholls they do feel a bit roomier I don't know if that will equal a problem later with more use. I would, for the price and thinking the original insoles would not have this defect with every pair of boots made, recommend them. I have a pair of Under Armour boots that started off as if they were broken in perfectly. The Blackhawks don't start out that way but break in pretty quick. They also seem to be made of sterner stuff concerning the soles of the boot. The Blackhawks feel like they will wear out a lot slower and will have a longer shelf life. They are pretty nice boots. I get a lot of positive comments on them and questions about where I got them. They actually look better and perform better than I thought they would. I'd get another pair.
Pros: decent boot for the money, comfortable once inserts replaced
Cons: Impossible to wear at first...

Overall well worth the money and once there broke in very maneuverable and comfortable.
Pros: Very comfortable. Prefer wearing them more then shoes.
Cons: Not really a con. Breaking in took a couple days with the heavier duty material, but worth it in the end....

Black Hawk Boots

I like these boots but the tread pattern is not aggressive enough for the work I do. I find myself sliding and slipping on rocky/mountain terrain. I would recommend these boots if you work area is flat lands or pavement.
Pros: Comfort, easy to no break in period
Cons: tread pattern...

Hard core use

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, WA Written on June 5, 2012
I work in forestry, so I'm in the woods everyday. When you work in the woods, "Off Trail", conditions are much more extreme. My blackhawks went through hell. After two years, they're done, but I was very impressed. They were very comfortable right out of the box, and remained that way. The soles worked very well in all environments, and self cleaned very well. I also thought they breathed well compared to other boots I've had. They were an all around pleasure to wear. After a year, the first thing to go was the toe protector, which came unglued, and allowed water in (should be sewn on like other boots). Of course, the waterproof nature only lasted for the first year. Next to go was the stitching. They just started coming apart at around 2 yrs. In summary, these boots are a great 2yr throw away boot for my profession, and I would reccomend them to anyone for this purpose, and especially at this price. You definitely get your moneys worth.
Pros: Comfort, traction, functionality
Cons: Craftsmenship...
