Update on sheath issue

by DA, from United States, FL Written on November 26, 2014
Just an update the day after I received knife with defective sheath. After a little more investigation, I found a lot of plastic shavings inside of sheath and on knife when first opened. Also noted that the box had been scotch taped shut as though possibly returned. When closely inspecting the inside of sheath, it looks like someone ground out retentive area at top of sheath possibly to loosen it up a bit. I have read other reviews stating it was too tight. I'm guessing whoever had it tried to loosen fit and loosened too much. Then they returned taping box shut. I got unlucky and got the modified lemon! Talked to Optics Planet customer service and they are sending new one and I will be credited for bad one as soon as I can return it. They are taking care of shipping and hopefully new knife and sheath will be good. Will update one more time when I get it?...

Knife is cool, Sheath has major design flaw!!

by DA, from United States, FL Written on November 25, 2014
Just received knife today and took out of box to check it out. Unsheathed and looks really good. Knife is heavy and sharp and feels good in my hand. Put it back in the sheath and hooked rubber retaining strap. Knife felt somewhat loose in sheath so I turned it upside down and shook very slightly. The darn thing fell right out of the sheath and sliced the rubber retaining strap in half like butter. I caught the knife on my lap and just sat there amazed and disappointed. The strap simply did not engage any part of the handle of the knife and allowed it to fall out until the blade dragged across the rubber and severed it. This knife/sheath is made to be carried horizontally or vertically and theoretically through the woods, up and down mountains, running and climbing...? Hate to think that with a little jiggling it was going to work itself out of the sheath and be lost or even hurt someone... I will be calling after the Thanksgiving holiday to see what Optics Planet is going to suggest to remedy the situation. Not sure if it can be remedied as it seems to be a fatal flaw in the design of the sheath/strap. Guess I'll return it if they don't have a fix or offer another sheath to try?? Will follow up then....

Opmod knife

by Brightwater, from United States, NY Written on September 22, 2014
One of the best designs I have seen in a while blade thick coated steel goes through the handle in one piece like every knife should, great blade design,I carry my knife in a marine environment always cutting line ,straps, boxes etc, love the sheath design to put on belt and size it to fit and rotate sheath so blade is parallel to ground, knife is a tool not a weapon and this is no doubt the best knife for the money I have seen, from someone who has always carried. A straight blade!...

This thing is sweet

by slightly tactical, from United States, IL Written on July 22, 2014
I just got into prepping just for the peace of mind and I've really just started collectiong weapons. I stumbled on this OPMOD knife, haven't really heard anything about it on youtube but I decided to take a chance. Ordered on a Friday, it was on my porch on the following Tuesday. After unboxing, I wasn't really ready for how big it is, I guess the pictures don't do it justice. Ive done a little bit of chopping with it in my backyard, mostly smaller sticks and it just busts right through em. Ive been nothing but happy with it. Definitely worth the money and glad I took a chance on it....

A honkin' big unit!

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, WA Written on June 5, 2014
A honkin' unit, indeed! A heavy knife for all purpose chopping and heavy use. It reminds me of the Nepalese Kukri. It cuts deeper with this forward-facing design. A substantial feeling quality tool.
Pros: Mass and momentum...

Pigs Beware

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, WA Written on May 27, 2014
Love this knife for bringing out on nighttime piggy hunts. Looks great strapped to my belt. NOt a fan of serrations but the big long belly of the blade makes up for it.
Pros: g-10 handle, nice point, nice sheath
Cons: serrations...

Takes a beating

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, WA Written on April 10, 2014
This thing is a monster for the money. Used it to hack up some branches with a baton and cut tinder , worked perfectly. Comes with a pretty sweet bladetech sheath. Sheath was a little tight at first but got better as I used it.
Pros: Weight, sheath, scales...
