There is a collar underneath the mounting to set the lubber lines if you need it in a position which is not square to the hull. The mounting screws are small but would be easy to upgrade if they start to work loose.

Pros:  Large 5 degrees gradation giving high legibility. Double scale-top and edge readings allowing for simutaneous direct bearing and reciprocal bearing. Permits transverse tilting up to 30 degrees and unlimited tilting fore and aft.
Cons:  Illumination for night time use and magnetic disturbance compensator come at additional costs as accessories.
Would recommend:  yes

I have a Wilderness Systems Tempest 170 kayak which has a molded in recess for the 70P. Installation was simple but the guide and instructions would have made a more challenging installation possible. The compass is very stable and easy to read in rough conditions and it is a high quality piece. You need a recess to mount it flush since the globe protrudes above and below the mounting plate. I am very happy with the compass and in all honesty, OpticsPlanet had the best price by far so this really worked out.

This was the only compass i found that fit my Necky Kayak (Looksha-poly). Just cut a hole and it flush mounts in were the 4inch flat spot is on top of the deck and looks great. These are the same compasses that delta uses on there kayaks.
