I purchased several of these units for various purposes. I pinned one onto my dash mat in my truck, one on my ATV vest, and I gave one to each of my adult children. I have already broken one, the base broke off and the ball cracked. I still would recommend these, they are quick and accurate, but if your are heading out to the middle of nowhere, I would carry a more durable compass to read with your map. Good value for the money.
