The main issue is that the quality of the Com-Pro is not up to spec: +- 0.5 degrees. I have returned two so far and am on the third one. On one, the printed North end mark was miss-aligned. On the current one, the magnet is not aligned with the needle thus it always reads 2 degrees more than another Silva compass regardless of the declination. Polaris at culmination reads 3 degrees more than the local NGDC declination. The compass and clinometer scales are miss-aligned with the sighting peepholes and or with each other . Two had fingerprints, smudges and dust under the glass or had other manufacturing blemishes. This is in late 2008. All of these are QA/QC issues I hope can be solved one way or another because I am returning the current one. On the other hand, the Brunton customer relations folks are very understanding. They do return your emails and I have gotten prompt action.
Pros: Good customer relations
Cons: Not up to 0.5 degree spec.
