I had done extensive research before buying these binoculars. I am an amateur birder but also like to go out in nature a lot and am currently living in Africa. It came down to these and the Nikon Monarch. I found both to be as impressive as any other brand name recognition optics (Leika and Swarovski to name a few) under $800.
Both are similar in weight and style. The main difference is that the Natureviews are not water/fog/ or shockproof. My only other complaint is that they are a bit heavy (as are the Monarchs) for 3-5 day backpacking trips. The other obvious difference is the price. I ended up buying my cousin the Nikon for his 50th birthday but couldn't justify buying myself a pair despite the great price from Opticsplant. So I bought myself these Natureviews. Having said that, I have really gotten a lot of use out of them! I have taken them through some tough terrain in the desert and even backpacking up at high elevation in the Sierra's in the early dool fall while visiting back home.
The Natureviews are ideal for spotting wildlife and even sporting events. If you want binoculars that take you to extreme temperatures of rain, frost, and snow, then the Monarch's are the binos for you. But if you want a pair of really great binoculars to use in fair weather that will show you detail on that Abyssinian Roller bird that is 600 feet away, do not hesitate to buy these great Bushnell binoculars. They are well worth every penny!
Pros: Excellent optics and brightness
Cons: not waterproof/fogproof/shock proof
