These binoculars seem great. Lots of light and good focus. I think they will be great for birding and nature watching. Seem to be a good value for the money....

Excellent for fair weather viewing

I had done extensive research before buying these binoculars. I am an amateur birder but also like to go out in nature a lot and am currently living in Africa. It came down to these and the Nikon Monarch. I found both to be as impressive as any other brand name recognition optics (Leika and Swarovski to name a few) under $800.

Both are similar in weight and style. The main difference is that the Natureviews are not water/fog/ or shockproof. My only other complaint is that they are a bit heavy (as are the Monarchs) for 3-5 day backpacking trips. The other obvious difference is the price. I ended up buying my cousin the Nikon for his 50th birthday but couldn't justify buying myself a pair despite the great price from Opticsplant. So I bought myself these Natureviews. Having said that, I have really gotten a lot of use out of them! I have taken them through some tough terrain in the desert and even backpacking up at high elevation in the Sierra's in the early dool fall while visiting back home.

The Natureviews are ideal for spotting wildlife and even sporting events. If you want binoculars that take you to extreme temperatures of rain, frost, and snow, then the Monarch's are the binos for you. But if you want a pair of really great binoculars to use in fair weather that will show you detail on that Abyssinian Roller bird that is 600 feet away, do not hesitate to buy these great Bushnell binoculars. They are well worth every penny!
Pros: Excellent optics and brightness

As good as any under $800

I'm a hiker and birder currently living in Africa. I needed versatility to look at birds as well as wildlife in the Saharan Desert, while hiking and camping, and going on safari. After much research, it came down between these and the Nikon 10X42 Monarch's (about $200 more). I bought my cousin the Monarch's for his 50th and myself these Natureview's. In comparison, both are excellent binoculars. They are comparable in almost every way; great balance, fine optics, depth of field, quick focus, and brightness. The main difference is in the added waterproof/fogproof design of the Monarch. If you are a fair weather user, these are great (even a light drizzle is okay) and truly every bit as good as more expensive ones I've borrowed and viewed before (including the Monarch's). They are fairly rugged. If you go to extreme weather where fog and rain are a factor, consider the Monarch's. But for general purposes, these Bushnell Natureview's are a deal.

I'll be moving to Russia at the end of the year. It will be interesting to see how they stand up to more severe temperatures. Overall, I'm very happy with my 10X42 Natureview's and would recommend them to anyone for all of the above reasons. I do find them heavy for more serious backpacking trips though (3-5 day hikes) and am considering buying a pair of Nikon 8X25 Travelite V compacts.
Pros: great brightness in low light
Cons: weight (a bit heavy for serious backpacking)...
