Bushnell GPS don't leave camp without it

This little device is what everyone needs when they are hiking or camping in a new area or wherever they may become disoriented. The batteries can be changed without losing the original settings.
Pros: easy to use, gets one within 50 yards, price
Cons: only stores three positions at a time...

Bushness GPS don't leave camp without it

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, CA Written on September 17, 2011
This is an excellent little device for insurance when camping in new territory. It often takes a minute or two to get started and sometimes initial activation seems to be delayed when surrounded by tall trees. Once it is active for the day, it comes back on line down the trail more quickly. It also remembers memory points indefinitely, at least for months at a time when the battery is left in.
Pros: simple, good battery life, accurate to 50 yards
Cons: only three memory positions at one time...

Best for Hiking/boating

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, WA Written on February 25, 2011
I bought this for our pre-teen grandsons to use hiking in the north GA trails. I set it before they go then turn it off to save the batteries. When and if they need it to get home, they turn it on and follow the arrow. Easy, reliable, safety device. It seems rugged, too.
Pros: easy to use
Cons: none...

GPS is comforting when in forest

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, CA Written on July 4, 2010
The GPS is a little slow when initiating, taking a couple of minutes on average. This is not a problem in a survival situation, of course. However, it appears to work around the world, having tested it in the US and Asia. Another plus is that it holds its memory while AAA batteries are changed. There is also a clear battery level indicator on the face of the GPS when it is 'on'. This ability to change batteries can be very important if one is in a survival situation in a remote area and the need to put in backup batteries arrives. The main improvement that I would recommend is to have five active location points rather than three. (e.g., camp, vehicle, first significant incident, second significant incident, third significant incident.) It should be clear from the description that these three reference points are changeable.

It is a good feature that the button for turning on the GPS and for choosing which reference point for calculating distance is a different button from the one for storing the GPS readings. Storage also requires a 4-second hold, which provides additional insurance against accidentally erasing a storage point when in the field.
Pros: small, lightweight, 2 AAA, reasonably accurate
Cons: only remembers three positions at one time...

A backtrack Busnell personal locator for an hunter and mushrooms searcher

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner Written on May 29, 2010
I like very much to spend my free days among woods of my Country (northern of Italy) for hunting with my rest dog (spinone italiano) and for collect mushrooms (boletus edulis). When the fog or low clouds drop down in autumn, my Bushnell Backtrack is a precious help to go back at home.Even a mountain expert can fail in the fog, but with the Backtrak direction is assured....
