Works really well with bolt action rifles but because of the support bar it doesn't work well with AR types or anything with a pistol grip or long magazine.
Pros: Good recoil reduction, easy to setup

Caldwell Lead Sled Plus

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, CO Written on March 5, 2012
I searched everywhere for reasonably priced lead shot to fill my platform stabilizing Caldwell bags; %2.00 per pound for 100 pounds seemed steep. I instead ordered four more Caldwell bags and filled them with silica sand, like that used in playgrounds. The bags are not nearly as heavy, but I now have eight, and the filler cost me $3.25 at Home Depot! They work great!
Pros: Ease of assembly and use, sturdy, virtually eliminates recoil from my .223 up to 300 Win Mag
Cons: None...

Caldwell Lead Sled Plus Shooting Rest

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, PA Written on February 12, 2012
As I said, wish I had bought one of these a long time ago. Other than having to haul it around it's great. But then the results are definitely worth the effort.
Pros: It's so simple a "cave man can do it", Easy to assemble and easy to use. I wish I had bought this a long long time ago. It really makes sighting in a loy easier, and it helps to place your shots more consistant.
Cons: Getting weights and or sand bags can be a pain, but once thats done it's great....

Works Just As Advertised

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner Written on March 3, 2011
The Lead Sled Plus does work very well. The gun could be fired all day long without the pain of recoil. I sighted in my 12 gauge, with iron sights, with absolutely no problems. I did not flinch at all. The Sled is very solid and well made. It is very easy to adjust the front forearm support for the gun with its accurate dial.
The Lead Sled did not work as well on guns with scopes, however. The padded gun stop, between your shoulder and the butt of the gun, interfered when sighting through the scope. It had my eye too far away from the eyepiece to see properly (because of the thickness of the pad); all I could see through the scope was a little dot. There is only a small margin for the correct distance between the eye and the eyepiece or the field of view becomes distorted. As a result, I had to get up from the natural stable seating position at the table and having the gun and "Sled" against my shoulder unto an unnatural shaky and unstable position of standing up (moving the chair out of the way) and stooping over the gun and the Lead Sled in order to see through the scope.
In conclusion, I gave the highest score to the Lead Sled Plus because it did what it was meant to do--take away the recoil, although I wish it would of worked better for guns with scopes. However, I do not know how they could make it to work for scoped guns. That padded butt plate is what makes it work in the first place. Moreover, although very awkward, I was able to sight my guns with scopes i...
