Caldwell Swinging Target

by Jeff, from United States, OH Written on December 31, 2014
The product description said it was intended to withstand a 44magnum shot, when the box came it said up to a 45acp shot. We haven't shot it with our 44magnums yet, but the frame and swinging targets hold up very well to our 45acp's. Don't bother applying the 4 stick-on orange targets that come in the box, they wouldn't last 10 shots, us them at the indoor range instead. Just carry some cheap black (or white) spray paint with you instead to cover the metal after the bullets chip it off. The legs are a little short and the swinging target is too close to the ground when fully stuck in the ground, so we cut 2 - 5/8" x 24" long pieces of conduit and slid 1 over each leg and it is at a perfect height when stuck in the ground about 12". Tilt the frame forward a little because it will get knocked plumb and even backwards pretty quick from the impact. We just ordered another one because I got tired of waiting for the target to stop spinning....

Works Great

If you are considering this Caldwell steel target, go ahead and buy it if the price is acceptable. It works great. The metal is not eevn significantly dimpled after multiple hits with .45 Colt, .357 magnum, and .44 magnum rounds fired from 12-25 yards. The paint flies off immediately and the stickers are more or less useless, but the steel target goes with me now every time I am out shooting....

Seems well built, does the job for the money. However, it does not come with any stickers applied to target area which means an additional purchase.I would still recommend!
Pros: Seems well built, value for money
Cons: No stickers applied to target area...

Caldwell Swinging Target, pt44 Mag

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, WV Written on June 24, 2012
This target is fast and easy to set up. And, you get the ping sound as well as motion wit each hit. It is great for just plinking when you don't want to go to the effort to set up a paper target. I sometimes leave mine out for a few days at a time just in case I want to do some spontaneous target practice. And, of course I have to say something about the super OpticsPlanet service - super rapid shipping and an amazing selection.
Pros: easy set up with both visual and sound hit indicators
Cons: Only that the surface is quickly marred by hits....

Didn't hold up to use....

This was a great little handgun target... for about 6 range outings. My wife broke the spinner in half with a well placed shot from a 9mm. This was the 44mag version. Probably would have held up better to 22LR...
Cons: Broke after a few trips to the range......
