In a pre-filled bag, you get a filler that Caldwell is happy with as far as weight and moisture absorbtion/retiention. Had I just ordered an unfilled bag and filled it with sand, it would have cost additional time and money... and might not have worked out as well. I don't know what they use to fill these bags, but it's about perfect for a combination of carry weight and stability. Perfect for springer type air rifles, I was shooting consistant sub 1/4" groups at 10 yds. from this bag within an 20 minutes of putting it to use.
