Great for Night time security

by MNprepper, from United States, MN Written on July 21, 2014
I work as a security guard at night at a college campus and this little night vision device has proven to be extremely useful when looking for kids up to no good at night. It fits in my shirt pocket, turns on fast and gives me all the range I need in my situation. I couldn't be happier with it. Only problem is the lanyard is cheap but I just replaced it with some paracord....

Great for late night walks

by Gerard, from United States, AR Written on July 18, 2014
I frequently take my dogs for a walk throughout my neighborhood. The streets are not very well lit and so it can get pretty scary sometimes even with the dogs. I have this little guy in my pocket and pull it out when I hear something that startles me. It turns on right away and weighs next to nothing. Id recommend this to anyone that wants to see be able to see what moves in the night....

Fun Little Tool!

by brites1988, from United States, MN Written on July 17, 2014
I'll be honest - at this price point I wasn't expecting much out of this unit. However I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived and was able to test it out. Certainly not a night vision unit for professionals, but for those of you looking to do some close-range observation in your backyard, this will definitely suit your needs. Plus it's super small, so you can pretty much take it anywhere....
Pros:
  • Cheap!
  • Fun
  • Good picture at close range
Cons:
  • Not good for long distances
Best Used for:
  • Close range observation

Big disappointment

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner Written on February 8, 2013
Don't know if I had a lemon, but I returned this. Hurt my eyes -back-projecting illumination was like staring into a flashlight, wiped out night vision after a few seconds. Couldn't keep it to my eye long enough to fully adjust the focus. Did not perform for me outdoors, which was my intent. Did not have range, could not focus, bright objects flared, image had streaks (like old TV screens).
Pros: cheap
Cons: see comments...

You get what you pay for

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, WA Written on February 5, 2013
I picked this up on sale at Cabelas because the price was right. I have two Gen I monoculars that get used quite often. This was to be a light weight, easy to carry alternative. After taking it out in the field for the first time, I was really taken back with how poorly this performed. The picture (black/white) was extremely grainy and hard to make out objects just a few feet away. The unit was returned the following day for a refund. Save a bit more and get a decent Gen I devise. For $100 more, you will be pleased with some of the other units out there.
Pros: Very small
Cons: No magnification, VERY grainy...

Good Buy for the Buck

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, WA Written on January 14, 2013
If you don't want to shell out big bucks for a night vision device, this is a reasonable alternative. Don't expect great things though. It's small, very light weight, with a mediocre but relatively clear field of view. Although I would not rely on this for a critical self defense incident, it does allow you to see potential threats in the dark from a short distance.
Pros: Inexpensive, lightweight
Cons: Limited field of view, mediocre quality...
