Not up to par

This unit's altimeter doesn't work. It shows zero elevation where ever I go. It feels cheap in your hand, and doesn't include a manual yet NEEDS one badly because the buttons are so confusing. The battery life is SHORT! (8 hours) and doesn't record very many trips (8 hours!). There are other units MUCH better at the same price.
Pros: Size
Cons: Not easy to navigate, cheap plastic feel...

The acquisition of satellites is quick, even under foliage. The location of a route is automatically plotted on the LCD screen as a series of dotted lines that show your direction of movement, all without an underlying map, because there is no built in map on this GPS. This GPS lets you mark a starting point for navigation and then switch the GPS off. Later, after you have explored an area of land or water, you turn the GPS on, and navigate to the original waypoint by following a direction of travel arrow. The navigation is very good for returning to the starting point. The alkaline batteries lasted me for about six hours with constant use before becoming depleted. The compass is reasonably accurate but needs calibration before use. The LCD back light for night use is good but depletes the battery much faster.

The altitude and barometric pressure measurements need calibrating and are off by 60ft in some cases. The temperature measurement of the ambient air is also somewhat inaccurate and you must move the GPS away from you body or it will sense some of your body heat resulting in an inaccurate reading if it had been in a shirt or trouser's pocket.

Overall it is the best GPS in its class for navigation that hikers and hunters will appreciate. It comes with a two year warranty. The major downside for me was that the unit is not Macintosh compatible. The software and GPS is designed for a PC running Windows OS. What this means, if you are running Mac OS, is that you wi...
