Celestron CN-16

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, FL Written on May 26, 2009
I purchased a CN-16 unit from Opticsplanet. The unit works great right out of the box. Just plug it into the AUX port of the CGE, set up the GPS option on the CGE and you're done. All information including latitude and longitude and real time are displayed on unit. Just two star align and you're viewing. This can't get any simpler. Great price and service.

Thanks Opticsplanet.

Tim
Pros: Ease of use and great funcitonality
Cons: Would be nice to have LED display on unit but not a standalone GPS unit ...
Would recommend: Yes

Helps with the alignment procedure.

If you observe from different locations the CN16 will put your exact latitude and longitude into your telescope, plus it will enter the exact time. It does improve goto accuracy, since the data entered is more precise than what we normally care to enter. If you observe at the same location all the time, then it is wiser (and cheaper) to find your exact lat. and. lon. and enter it manually and make sure that you enter exact time taking daylight savings into account.
Pros: Enters time, lat. and lon. correctlly. Improves goto accuracy.
Cons: Hard to find CN16 brackets for your scopes......
Would recommend: Yes

Forget that whole Polar Align speil...the reason you get a GPS is to help with alignment which this doesn't. You still have to align your scope...you just know where you are faster. And if you're always in your backyard it's even more useless. Save yourself $200 - look at a clock and then look up your Lat & long.
Pros: gives long & lat of new locations when traveling
Cons: does NOT help with star align...
Would recommend: No
