a great value in a large spotting scope

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner Written on March 30, 2008
100mm objective shows it value by giving all views more brightness. Could easily see the mortar between bricks of the high school half a mile away at full power. Very good value for a larger scope, and Optics Planet had it to my door 49.5 hours after I phoned in order. Everything as promised.
Pros: bright, wide field, quality construction
Cons: no separate cap for eyepiece...

definitely met all my expectations. the low dispersion glass makes such a difference in low-light/poor visibility situations. does need a sturdy tripod though...

Celestron Ultima 100mm ED Spotting Scope, 52253

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, CA Written on July 26, 2007
I had hoped for near second-of-angle resolution owing to the ED glass and 100mm objective. Performance is good value for price, and I recommend the product, but it is not 100% up to its full potential.
Pros: Price, ease of use, included accessories, compact size
Cons: Resolution is very good, but not quite what I had hoped for...

I was looking to a scope that would bring me sharp images while watching birds. It really does that.
I came with the possibility to fix a T-amount (even unadvertized), which is a great extra features for which you pay at other brands.
Be aware of the stability needed to make pictures at x67 magnification and the fact that this optics are not that advance as in a camera lens.
Make sure to buy a sturdy tripod and a head with pan and tilt capabilities.
Pros: Sharp images for a reasonable price
Cons: Size when travelling...
