EGW Savage Rail

by Ed K, from United States, MI Written on December 24, 2014
The EGW rails are my rail of choice for most builds for myself or others guns . They are very sturdy rails and priced well for a rail of this quality . They give lots of scope mounting options and ring choices . I have trimmed a couple shorter for scope clearance on short tubed scopes mounted very low . Optics Planet always ships quickly and staff are always pleasant to deal with ....

Perfect fit, easy installation

by Acadiana Armory, from United States, LA Written on December 23, 2014
This rail added significant versatility to my savage axis in that the factory ring mounts are so far widespread that it is difficult to find just any scope to mount on the rifle. I would rate this as a "necessary" improvement to make the rifle more useful. It does add a little bit of scope height, but for my application this helped as well. VERY well made and solid....
Pros:
  • Solid mount
  • High Quality. Very Sturdy.
  • versatile optic mounting
Cons:
  • scope height rises
Best Used for:
  • Hunting/Bench rest
  • scopes

I bought two of these mounts for Savage Axis rifles in .223 & .308 calibers. I am confident that I could not have purchased a better mount at any price. I found the best price at Optics Planet with free shipping....

Excellent product, but ...

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, VA Written on January 19, 2013
The mounting holes align perfectly with the holes on my Savage Axis; no mystery there. However, the mount itself extends past the holes on one end further than on the other end. I suppose there is a good reason for this, but to a newbie such as myself, the reason is unclear. Never the less, if I mount the base with the long end forward, I must mount my scope further forward than I would like, because the bell of the objective lens of my scope (a Nikon P-223 3-9x40) is rather long. If I reverse the base, then that elongation interferes with the bolt handle. Other than that, the mount meets all my expectations, and I am very happy with it and would recommend it to anyone.

Adjustability with eye relief

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner Written on January 17, 2013
This mount seemed to be the best option for my axis if I wanted to mount my scope closer to my eyes. Looks nice and held Burris Zee rings square. When using medium rings and a 40mm objective I had to trim the front end 5/8" to clear the front of scope. Only because I was mounting so far back for eye relief. Lots of options for scope size and rings now...
Pros: Many mounting points
Cons: Had to modify a bit for mounting far back on rail...
