I wear it with both a suit and with shorts (you do need a belt as the clips will not hold well with just the shorts -- it simply is designed for a belt). The clips are also a little big bit you cas replace them with J hooks for $7 or so. The clips on this one do seem a bit flimsy but to date I have actually had no problems with them. Replacement clips are not expensive so even if they break replacement cost is next to nothing ... about $7.
