I have a 1911 Sig variation which made it slightly different than the Colt and Colt-like clones on the market. Because of this, finding a non-custom holster for every day carry started to become an issue. Finally, I was recommended this model Galco holster due to the slight difference in design.
*First Impression (Snug!)
It was like getting a new baseball glove. I assumed gun leather was like that (and not just because of my 1911 dimensional variations) and took the steps to break it in correctly. The fit had an extreme snugness about it which took about a month to get accustomed to. The way it attached to a nylon pistol belt was also different than most paddle holsters I have used. This was not a had thing. Accompanying this with the snug fit for the firearm, I was starting to worry that I was going to have to take my pants off in order to draw the gun in a hurry. Thankfully, this issue worked itself out over time with the break in period. Basically, this is not an item you can purchase and just leave in the closet until you need to use it one day. You are going to have to work with it and get used to the small differences in design and performance.
I had been using a Fobus holster for quite some time so it took me awhile to get used to a leather holster. While I dont think it would be appropriate to say one is better than the other, I can say that this item works better for a concealed carry license holder. I prefer an outside the belt solution due to training and familiarity. The Fobus product line seem to be very extrovert no matter how you dress or carry yourself. The Galco product seem to be a little more introvert when it comes to everyday carry. Fobus products tend to work right out of the box and as I had previously mentioned this Galco Product did require some time and training to become comfortable with.
Hope that helps and best of luck.
Pros: Snug fit, secure clasp
Cons: Long Breakin Period
