It does what its supposed to. The metal cover seems to almost exactly the same, if not completely, as the original EOTech 516 cover. Took about 5 minutes to install, give or take, but the most time was spent trying to budge the original screws out of the cover, since they are locked in pretty good with Locktite. But once those pop loose, you insert a small plastic shim (provided) between the hood and the buttons so they don't get messed up, then slide the cover off. Then you put the new cover on, use the shim again, and once its on, remove the shim and put the screws back in. People have mentioned they're afraid to strip the scews when they put them back in because of all the locktite inside... easiest way is when your tightening the screws, if there is any hesitation, back the screw out and go back and forth a few time, then put the screw in a little further and repeat as needed, just don't over tighten at the end. The hoods are real nice, they even supply little neoprene pads to put on the cover to stop it from making noise when it pops open, if you want to put it on, I did. Both covers are spring loaded and snap shut, so they shouldn't open by themselves.
