One epic failure.

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, TX Written on March 28, 2014
Let me start off by apologizing for the length of this review, but when the Biometric SpeedVault decided to fail on me it was pretty epic and I wouldnt want anyone else to have to go through what I did. If you just want a quick pros and cons read the other reviews.

I work for an engineering firm in an office located within a small branch office of a major bank in one of the biggest cities in the US. I am always the first one into the office in the morning, and being the first person in a bank I feel that I need to put a little more attention into my security than I use to. I have my concealed handgun license and I carry daily. I bought the Biometric SpeedVault to attach under my desk. When I get settled in the morning (coffee made & computer set up) I disarm myself by putting my concealed handgun into the SpeedVault. I leave it open until a few of my coworkers have arrived then I shut it so that when I step away from my desk others dont have access to my weapon. Leaving the SpeedVault open provides easy access to my firearm and it is much easier to draw from when sitting down than my holster, which was one of my favorite things about it.

This routine worked great for about five months until it had an EPIC FAILURE!!! I got to work about 45 minutes before I was expecting anyone else to show up, and started my daily routine. I got my coffee and was just sitting down to start up my computer when I heard the front door chime. I go to open my SpeedVault so that I ...

This Gunsafe Could Get You Killed!

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, KS Written on May 17, 2013
Do NOT buy this gunsafe. I own 5 other GunVault gun safes (all with keypad locks) and could not be more pleased with them. I bought this biometric GunVault for quick access to my home defense handgun. My plan was to attach it to my bedside table. On receipt, I carefully followed the instructions. My wife and I each set up our right index finger as the two "administrator" codes. Then we each set up a total of three fingers on each hand (just in case of an injury). It took many, many attempts just to get one fingerprint programmed in successfully. Then, the reliability level was hideous! This gunsafe could get you killed in an emergency situation. It might open on the first attempt (rarely). It might take five or six attempts. Sometimes we simply could not get it to open at all. I have requested a return authorization for a refund. I have ordered the keypad model instead. I will NEVER order another biometric lock for any gun safe. A self-defense weapon must be 100% reliable. The lock mechanism on the gun safe where you keep your weapon must also be 100% reliable. This biometric gun safe is NOT safe!
Pros: None
Cons: Biometric lock COMPLETELY unreliable....

Great idea! Bio is a little lacking

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner Written on May 16, 2013
The biometrics can be a little fussy. Sometimes it takes a few tries, and I think it totally forgot one of my fingers that used to work. In a panic situation, it might cause delay. I'm actually going to order another one for a different spot in my house, and it's going to be the 4 button model.
Pros: instant access in a ready to be "gripped" position
Cons: bio is a little cranky. ...

Perfect for my office

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner Written on May 7, 2013
I have an early teen living in the house and want my guns locked up but still want them easily available to me. This was perfect for my home office. Here are some things I learned while mounting and setting the scanner for this unit.

I mounted mine high on the side so I could secure it to both the bottom of the desk top and side of the desk. I added screws as there were not enough that come with it. Mounting was pretty easy following the instructions

I did not find the program buttons until I had the safe apart for mounting. The instructions tell you everything but exactly where the buttons are. Felt like an Easter egg hunt on Easter Sunday. They are inside the safe above the door, right below the reader.

The reader comes so that any scan will open the safe and remains this way until the first admin scan is entered. Once programmed, it now only accepts the programmed prints.

A saw some comments about the reader being picky, but decided to buy anyway. Here are some tips to avoid issues. I found there is a slight delay between pressing the button and the reader being ready to match the scanned print. So, push the button, wait about 1 second, then scan your finger. Doing this I find it opens on the first scan about 4 out of 5 times. Second, when you do your first scan to program your print, do it in the position you will normally use to open your safe. In other words, program it AFTER you mount it, not before. Also, make sure you are in the position yo...

If you have a hand gun, you need one of these!

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner Written on March 30, 2013
Mount it anywhere, by your bed, under your desk, or in a kitchen cabinet and know that your gun is easy to access and safe from your children. It reads your finger print as you swipe it acros the reader, taking 2-4 seconds to complete the swipe. It could take a few swipes to read your fingerprint during a panic situation, but with practice, this could be minimized. I have a gunvault with the push button combination as well. I like the biometric reader much better.
Pros: Secures your hand gun fom children or thieves.
Cons: The biometric reader can be a little slow to read....

It does what it's supposed to do.

Overall this is a great product. Sometimes I have to swipe my finger a few times but I think it might be my fault. If I go slow and consistent everything works good.
Pros: Simple design and sturdy.
Cons: Sometimes fails to read my fingerprints....

very good fit and finish overall. designed well. a lot for the money. the only trouble i had was installing battery (had trouble getting wires and battery tucked into compartment so door would close). it will mount just about anywhere. am very pleased.
Pros: very well made, designed and thought out
Cons: installing battery was a little awkward...
