Pretty Good, except for AO feature

by Cal, from United States, WA Written on November 23, 2014
This scope works pretty well for the money, except any significant adjustment of the AO results in a POI shift (6-8 MOA maximum shift in elevation and windage over the full AO adjustment range). I also have a Hawke Panorama EV 4-12x50 AO, which offers an image quality noticeable better than my Sport HD scope, but I'd rather shoot the Sport HD, because its elevation and windage adjusters have more distinct clicks, less "slop," and they don't affect the zero (via another reticle shift). It's the same with the zoom adjuster--my Panorama zoom moves the reticle at the ends of its travel. With the exception of the AO, where the Panorama EV "only" moves couple of MOA or so, my Sport HD scope has far more repeatable and reliable mechanical adjusters than my Panorama EV....

an outstanding scope for a very reasonable price.

Hawke Sport Optics Sport HD Riflescope 4-12x50 AO Mil Dot IR. I have owned several Hawke's and can say nothing but good about all of them. Extremely well made scope. Great feature the etched glass cross hairs. They can not break. The Illuminated Reticle is not really necessary in most cases unless you need it. Kinda like having 4 wheel drive on your pickup truck. Not a necessity unless you get stuck. I like it for late evening shooting.
As for the caps, finish on scope, adjustments, all is fine. The adjustable Objective is very nice to fine tune the rifle and get the best clarity for any distance.

great scope

Quality scope for the price. I own several Hawke scopes and have never had an issue with any of them. 50mm lets in a lot of light and optics clarity is on par with higher priced scopes. Adjustment are smooth and easy....

Awesome Hawke "entry level scope"

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, SC Written on September 9, 2013
This is a awesome scope. Very nice entry level Hawke. However as stated, I was let down on the "minor details". I used on my Marauder .177 to "try it out". As used it, very clear. Then I put it on my Marauder Pistol, which it works very well for the 40 yd and under shots. Once it breaks in, I am sure the tight optic adjustments will loosen.
Pros: Clarity is awesome. Best 4-12 scope I ever used. Meets the Hawke specs that I expected. Very nice scope for the money. Illumination is awesome.
Cons: Adjustments are hard to turn, requires the most force I ever used on scope, very tight. Comes with "cheap" caps with the elastic cord. I would have paid extra for the flip up caps if Hawke would specify what caps/covers came with it. ...
