Check your action bar length BEFORE you buy.

FOREND WILL NOT FIT ALL 500's RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX.
Okay now that I have your attention, here is the reason so many are complaining (and rightfully so) that the Hogue Forend will not fit their action bar.
This forend is designed to replace Mossberg's that have the existing 7-3/4" slide tube. That is, the existing forend is mounted on a tube which slides on the magazine tube, said tube is 7-3/4". OK now, Mossberg 500's have 3 separate ways of mounting the forend to the shotgun. First is the 7-3/4" tube, which will require nothing for this forend to work. Second, it will have a 6-3/4" slide tube which will require Hogue part # 05020 which is an adapter for the shorter slide tube. In some cases, it will also require that you grind down some of the ribs in the new forend to accommodate the adapter (the one i received had the ribs pre-ground). Third method, there is no slide tube. The forend on the shotgun is a forend/slide tube combo. This will require you buy the new factory slide tube (from some place that sells Mossberg factory parts like Brownells, Mossberg part#12362BL, Brownell's Part#631-000-295. This is for the 6 3/4" slide, as it's cheaper than than the 7 3/4" slide with the locking nut.), and the Hogue adapter. To replace the slide, you will need to completely tear down the shotgun as the slide is one of the last pieces to be removed from the receiver.
A second word of advice...If the gun you are putting this on only has a pistol grip (ie the Persuader)be advised ...

50% Quite Satisfied

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, WA Written on January 18, 2013
The stock is wonderful! Unbolted old - rebolted new (with existing bolt) and solved the L.O.P. for shorter armed person. The forend however must have been for some other shotgun other than my Mossberg 500. Now I'm stuck with a new forend with no application. Recommend purchasing separately so either stock or forend could be individually returned.
Pros: Excellent stock
Cons: Forend for other shotgun...

gun stock

I was dissapointed with the buttstock, I think with hogue's molding abilities they could design the inside of the stock better so it can work with the factory bolt better not just use a washer over a hollow tube that can crush or break-need to mold the tube solid with a hole the size of the bolt.
Pros: feels good and solid once mounted.
Cons: buttstock design stupid...

Great handling

Recommend if you are looking for a short Length of Pull. I have it on my 590A1. What I thought would be a slightly involved install, turned into a quick and easy swap. 12" is very short, but fits my application perfectly.
Pros: solid grip, easy-to-install, short LOP
Cons: none...

Lots of questions

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, OH Written on September 9, 2011
The butt stock fits perfectly but the fore end is no where close to a direct fit-up. I will either buy another fore end or I will just live with the wood stock. Overall I am a little disappointed because I was really looking forward to making my Mossberg a perfect home defense gun.
Pros: Looks nice
Cons: Fore end not a direct fit...

Measure your action slide tube first

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, WA Written on June 20, 2011
I have a Mossberg 500A.

Just be careful, measure your action slide tube first. This is designed to fit the 7 5/8 inch action slide tube (the part that the forend slips over). The product description unfortunately does not mention this.

As of 2006, Mossberg changed the action slide tube from 7 5/8 inches to 6 1/2 inches (for whatever reason), and the majority of forends on the market are for the older 7 5/8 inch one.

Hogue does make an extender nut, however I believe they label that as being for the Mossberg 835, so I did not try that.

So if you have the older 7 5/8 inch aciton slide tube, I'm sure this works great.
Pros: Probably works just fine, if it fits
Cons: Doesn't mention that it won't fit on newer Mossberg 500A's...
