LaserDevices DBAL-D2 product review

by ghost warrior, from United States, OK Written on January 4, 2015
LaserDevices make very high quality, MIL-SPEC aiming and targeting accessories for a variety of applications and needs. The DBAL-D2 dual beam visible aiming laser with IR laser also comes with an adjustable beam spread IR LED illuminator. While some integrated units are smaller such as the DBAL-I2, the lack of a more versatile wide beam spread illuminator on that type can still make it necessary to add additional ancillary illuminators anyway, depending upon the range of your night vision requirements. The DBAL-D2 provides everything in one package. I bought mine to work in tandem with a PVS-14 weapons mount, night vision on both my 5.56 and 6.8SPC rifle platforms. The unit is visibly, very well made and operates flawlessly right out of the box. The push button/cable pad switch is also very user friendly. Standard aiming laser is green on mine but a red visible laser is available. Realistic operating ranges for both aiming lasers and IR illumination (at night) are easily 200-300 metres, dependent upon actual conditions. Unit is waterproof up to 5 metres. I have used it in a driving rain. While some do not like the CR 123 battery, I prefer it on this to help keep overall size down since the unit it is already a bit large. Unit is a bit heavy at 12.5 oz so some may want to consider carefully how to mount before purchase. I side mount mine with no complaints. Overall, 100% satisfied with product....
Pros:
  • superbly made
  • integrated IR LED illuminator
  • adjustable beam spread illuminator
Cons:
  • Expensive
  • slightly larger than similar products
  • slightly heavier than similar products
Best Used for:
  • integrating with night vision

Predator Control Successful

by Henry, from United States, IN Written on November 10, 2014
I have purchased this night vision optic for controlling predators that are harassing and killing our chickens at night. Usually coyotes. This optic is very robust, easy to zero, and works just fine in combination with PVS 14. We have already made quick work of a few of the local chicken thieves (four footed). I highly recommend optics planet for your purchases as their customer service department is very knowledgeable and helpful. The item arrived on time and in perfect condition. Instructions are milspec and quite thorough....

Laser Devices DBAL-D2

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, VA Written on February 2, 2014
Can be used weapon (rifle, carbine shotgun Picatinny mounted. If using a pistol, the DBAL-D2 can be handheld as a IR illuminator when using night vision devices with the IR laser being used as a signaling device if working with others.
Pros: Day and Night integrated IR and Vis laser pointers. Crisp, tight day green laser. IR laser disfusssion is good.
Cons: Pressure Switch is a "in-line" jack not a "90 deg angled jack". In-line jacks tend to fatigue and break more than 90 degree angled jacks. ...

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, CA Written on June 7, 2013
This is what you need if you want a civ legal IR weapon aiming device for your carbine. I like this versus the I2 model because it has an illuminator built in. however, you may like the I2 better since its smaller.
Pros: alu housing, tough, effective, bright
Cons: larger size than milspec unit due to LED ilu vrs Laser ilu on milspec unit...

Great alternative to the military small arms laser system

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, VA Written on May 29, 2013
Having extensive use with the military versions, this is a smaller version with nearly identical controls. After only one night shoot to set the unit up, it performs just as we'll as anything I've deployed with, with one exception.

The LED IR illuminator gives off a visible red light that, while very narrow, can give away your position to a potential enemy.

Pros: Compact, easy to adjust, powerful lasers
Cons: Red light from illuminator, price...
