Laserlyte RL-XD/XDM

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, WA Written on November 10, 2011
Still the best laser product for MY needs. As always: the key here is "concessions". Your pros and cons will run the complete spectrum. Laserlyte has nothing to apologize for nor necessarily crow about: they did the right thing by filling a niche.
Pros: Above all the comments in the rating above, I have found that the laser "bleeds" energy on to my front site post (which I have painted a "orange-pink" for contrast). When illuminated by the laser, the front sight "glows" BRIGHTLY enough to enhance daylight acquisition where the laser footprint on the target is not otherwise visible. It also provides a cocking shelf for slide engagement for single handed loading.
Cons: I does require support hand (finger) manipulation OR a re-adjustment of shooting grip to activate....

Piece of crap

A laser site that will NOT zero in is absolutely worthless! I'm hoping to either get my money back or another one if this one is simply defective.
Pros: None
Cons: Won't zero in so it is worthless...

Laserlyte RL-XD/XDM rear LASER sight

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, SD Written on January 22, 2011
I was lucky enough to have the sight installed at my local gun shop for free.

It only took a few minutes. Accuracy is superb.
Pros: I can use my current holsters. Easy to operate. Works great!
Cons: Had installed at a gun shop. They did it for free....

Don't Buy it

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, VA Written on January 21, 2011
The idea for this product is great. To have a laser sight on the slide so that you can still use the holster you have and it's not bulky but easy to conceal. The poblem is that it is not reliable. In a situation where you need this laser, you need it to be spot on.

3 gunsmiths in my area refused to install it because of the issues they have had with it. One gentlemen said that he installed it and tested it at the range and it was fine. The second time he pulled it out at the range, he put the dot on target and it shot a foot and a half to the left. In a life or death situation, that is not what you want to happen. I returned mine.
Pros: Great idea
Cons: But bad design...

Great Product

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, NC Written on January 6, 2011
This sight is a great value when compared to other sights that cost well over $200. Was purchased as a gift to a family member who was well pleased with the product. Recommend this as a Christmas gift any day or just a nice gift!!
Pros: Great value verses other laser sights
Cons: None found to date...

Returning

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, FL Written on November 16, 2010
1. our local gunsmith said to return the slide to Springfield Armory to have the original sight removed in that the original sight was mounted using a hydraulic press. I contacted Springfield Armory who did not confirm or deny this but did say they would remove the original sight free of charge and I only had to pay for the shipping both ways (return shipping to me was quoted to be $10). I was going to do that until:

2. My friend bought the Glock version for his G19 9mm. He was able to have the original sight removed and the Laserlyte put on locally by a gunsmith. The Lasersight failed within 50 rounds. The button would not work. The Laserlyte was replaced free by the gun dealer. The second one failed within 30 rounds.

So now I am afraid to return the XD slide to Springfield Armory to remove the original sight then have the Laserlyte fail as my friend experienced. Most of the reviews we read were very favorable so this could have been an anomaly - but I saw it first hand twice. His gun is a Glock 19 9mm so it does not have a super recoil. Needless to say, were were both very disaapointed as we liked everything about the Laserlyte.
Pros: Nice idea, easy on/off, has pulse setting
Cons: Main one is gunsmith said to return slide to manufacturer...

Nice, once you get it installed.

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, WA Written on May 22, 2010
As far as the XD pistols go the rear sight is "pinned" and cannot be removed by using the brass punch. I tried relentlessly. Had to take it to a gunsmith and he had to cut the sight out. This cost me an extra $75 on top of the purchase price of the sight. They make it sound easy to install and it may be on other guns but not on the XD. It is nice however once it is installed.
Pros: Works great
Cons: Cannot install yourself...
