one sweet scope

I used a Leapers solid mount 30mm for this.It took a low mount for the .22 (no iron sights) and a high mount for the .177. The rubber coating requires this larger ring and a 1" just will not work so be advised.I have had this same scope for a couple of years now and it has seen a good bit of used without being molly-coddled in the least. It is nitrogen filled and I have never had it fog on me even in winter (it actually gets cold here in Florida), The illuminated reticule is a bonus (battery life is excellent) as are the ranging hash marks...they REALLY work too. I have had no problem what-so-ever sighting this scope in to the limit of either rifle and have used the .177 in a snap shot with both eyes open at 8' using the reticule with satisfying results. The covers are great after it is sighted in to keep it zeroed, the eye relief is good and the paralax adjustment is easy to use. The 3-9x zoom is smooth throughout its range. I like the flip up covers as well...no more fiddling in the dirt there. This is a pretty intimidating scope as well as it is large and the rubber shock proofing swells it up somewhat more. The down side, for some, might be that it adds a bit of weight to the gun,but I liked that. This is a great scope for an outstanding price point and is as rugged as you can ever hope for with precision optics
Pros: multi featured
Cons: none...
Would recommend: Yes

i have bought a leapers 3-9 magnifying scope years ago and was quite happy with it. i bought this one and was much less pleased with it. you will hear this over and over and is especially true with optics, "you get what you pay for". unfortunately that is not always good. this scope is good for the beginner. it is affordable and does work. however if you are more experienced you will want to stay away from it.
Pros: it is an affordable scope
Cons: you get what you pay for...

would buy it again

No problems mounting and zeroing it on my .270. I have fired 35 rounds with it and went to the range to check my zero after going in and out of the woods 8 times, and keeping my gun in the car for a month. It was still dead on. Be sure to use thread lock on every single screw when mounting it. I have no plans on replacing my scope unless I start having problems with it (time will tell), but I do plan to buy another for my small game rifle.
Pros: Illuminated
Cons: Time will tell...

Leapers Golden Image scope

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner Written on August 28, 2008
This is a great scope for the money. It performs well with my .223 rifle. Optics are clear and it holds zero well. I had a bit of trouble with the reticle illumination knob. They green light was cutting out sporadically, but it seems to have worked itself out. You can find better scopes, but not at this great price.
Pros: Rugged construction, great price
Cons: rubber skin moves slightly and has an odor....
