Shooting with iron sights at a paper target these days isn't as much fun as it used to be..., like when I was a young Marine 30 something years ago. A 12 inch round target at 100 yards easily hides behind my A2's front sight post. I couldn't even tell if i was hitting the paper at that range anymore. Something had to be done if I wanted to continue to enjoy shooting my AR-15.
So, a couple of months ago while surfing the web, I found the Leapers New Gen 4x20 Combat Style AR-15 Range Estimating Scope with Mil-dot Reticle on Opticsplanet. The review showed promise and the price was certainly right. So, I purchased one and after trying it out, I give it my 2 cents worth;
Its simple design and straight-forward appearance assures a solid construction. The single point carry-handle mount fit exactly as it was designed to, fixing the scope rigidly to the reciever. Its somewhat bulky appearance gives me the impression of a large black cigar case on top of my carry handle. But, the fixed 4 power magnification is there and a sharp bright image of the 12 inch target is right in your face at 100 yards!
At the range the Leapers gave me a crisp clear and bright image of the target for my old tired eyes. The ocular lens can be rotated to fix the focus for your particular eye-sight.
Shooting at 12 inch Shoot-N-C adhesive targets at the fifty and 100 yard ranges, I could clearly see that I was making fist sized groups with my reloaded ammo. No more guessing where the rounds were going:D
Not sniper quality for sure but then, I'm not a sniper. For what I need it for this 4 x 20 scope performs and altough it's bulkier than I would like, its $40 range price tag is hard to beat. Shooting my AR-15 is back to being fun again. Thanx Opticsplanet and Leapers!
Pros: Clear bright optics, Simple design, Solid fit
Cons: Larger than expected
