Malcom 6X

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, FL Written on November 27, 2013
Mounted on 22lr Winchester model 57. Rear ring is very fine thread. Purchase extra rear rings because its just a matter of time before it strips the ultra fine adjustment tread. Both on the ring itself and the set and adjustment screw. Especially if using differing grains of ammo. These will strip with just finger tightening. Be carful. The company WILL NOT replace for free. You will need to purchase new rings. About $27 with shipping
Pros: authenticity
Cons: rings are crap...

malcom scopes

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, FL Written on February 14, 2012
first off if you think this scope is just going to drop right on your wrong in most instinances. others sell a brass one thats totally screwed up to mount others cost more than the gun, so sometimes you need to work with these alittle and customer service from leatherwood is good.i have 6 of this mounted on some different guns and one that leatherwood says it can't be mounted on but they still helped in doing it and sold me 2 of the same mount. people are leaving bad reviews on this scope and they don't even know how to mount the scope nor do they ready the description of the scope then they complain about it.duh these scopes are they only reasonable ($) way to if you want one. and for the other guy on here who complained about one of these scopes and was putting on a h&r tip up come-on-man. no buffalo gun looked like that with a tip un gun.
Pros: for the $ excellent
Cons: need to mount scope...

great scope for a C-Shaps in .45-70

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner Written on August 5, 2011
I bought that one for my C-Sharps. It was great to deal with Opticsplanet, really fast shipment to Germany. The scope was really nice and better made as expected.
I also bought the PLRMT. All together the right stuff for 300yds and black powder!
Pros: great visibility, perfect lenses, nice reticle
Cons: not as easy to mount as a normal rifle scope...

Leatherwood 3/4 in Malcolm Telescopic 6x Rifle Scope 32" Long with Mount M634321 Riflescope

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner Written on March 18, 2009
Over all this seems to be a well made, quality scope considering it has the limitations as advertised such as 3/4 inch tube and 10 foot field of vision at 100 yards. This is not an issue on the quality of the scope. For the use intended, this riflescope is top notch....

What a complete disaster

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, WA Written on March 10, 2009
They tell you all you need is the scope and mount. WRONG the scope slides and moves and the continually sell you more parts to "fix the problem", that dont fit properly and dont fix the problem. Its not even set up to shoot in under 200 yards, you have to buy a different front mount for that. These scopes are and were designed for high power rifles, yet with their design, you have to buy more parts due to the recoil. Folks, guns have recoil, Geeeeeeeee!
Wish i had never started this failed project.
Pros: Looks great laying on the desk
Cons: They wont mount correctly...

WHAT A DISASTER

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner Written on March 7, 2009
Heres my hi-lux nightmare Wanted a buffalo gun with a Malcolm scope so here how it has gone. i had located a 1871 buffalo classic and always wanted the 1800 look to go shooting. note i am not new to shooting but have shooting all types of guns for over 50 years. 1-contacted customer service as discussed the want that i had and discussed both the long scope and also the 18" scope. was told that the best best was the malcolm because the 18" required going to a gunsmith and have the gun drilled and tapped and was assured the malcolm was perfectly and easily assembeled but only needed a different mount for the H&R 1871 Buffalo in 45-70, other than that everthing needed was complete. being satisfied with their response i went and bought the gun. 2-ordered scope and mount, found i needed the elevation adjustment mount also 3-received the scope, mount and elevation adjustment, was missing gun mounting screws. called service and they said they would send them but would take a week or so. 20 phone calls and 40 miles later was able to find a gunsmith to sell me the screws. 4-everything is assembeled, and i go to try out my new pride and joy. 5-shooting at 100 yards i find i cant hit the broad side of a barn. have to aim about a foot and a half below the bullseye to be able to even get close. pack up and go home. 6-again contact customer service-now i am told that the front mount is for 200 yards minimum. gee where does it say that in all the literature i read???? FOLKS-I BOUGHT THIS TO...

The Malcolm Scope Review Part 2

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner Written on August 11, 2008
I wish to add a part two review of the Malcolm Scope that is now mounted on my Uberti Sharps 45/70. I got my scope mounted by a well known local gunsmith here where I live who is familiar with the mounting process of Malcolms. After four long months due to his backlog I received my rifle back and I took it to the range this past weekend. Very, very nice. I was shooting 1/4 MOA's at 300 yards with this scope. The rifle and scope is capable of a 1,000 yard shot easily. However, after about 15 shots I had to quit shooting as the scope moved forward due to heavy recoil. It is a MUST that when you order this scope, you must order also the Tube Locking Collar to prevent the scope from sliding forward. I learned the hard way and it is a shame that Leatherwood Optics DOES NOT include the TLC in with the scope. You do receive all other hardware: base, dovetail fitting and hardware. For the money you pay I feel you should receive the TLC. Also on a 32" inch barrel DO NOT get the 7" extension. It will make the scope to long and you will get scope eye. Order the 3" extension and you will be fine. The eye relief is a generous four inches. The other complaint I have is the adjustments for windage in the field. You must raise the elevation to it's highest setting to get to the two set windage screws for adjustment. Also after a few shots you should check your tightness of all screws as the recoil of your rifle will loosen everything. But, this is a period scope and not the modern scopes of ...

Malcolm 3/4 6X Rifle Scope "32

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner Written on April 16, 2008
Received the scope today and after careful inspection, this scope suits my needs. Will be mounted on my Sharps 45/70. If you don't know what you are doing when mounting it. Don't!!!! Spend the extra $85.00 to get it professionally mounted by a gunsmith who KNOWS about Creedmores or Malcolms mounted on period rifles. Save yourself headaches and money by doing so as well The scope is very nice the brass ends accent the scope itself. The eye relief is generous at 4.5" to 5" The mounts seem to be machined well. If you purchase a 32" length scope do order your 7" extension to make it fit your rifle with a 32" barrel. Craftsmanship overall is well. For the money this scope is quite nice. Planet Optics offers a good deal and is quick to ship. It arrived in a industrial shipping tube and was well packed.
It will be a few weeks before I get the Sharps back but will include a p.s. after I shoot with the Malcolm. Hope this helps all.
Pros: thumbs up...
