Great scope for the range

by Yukonsooner, from United States, PA Written on November 17, 2014
I don't shoot beyond 200 yards and this is by far, the greatest bang for the buck I've seen or used. Great clarity and remarkable workmanship. Solid scope with a very nice tripod and carrying case to boot. I would highly recommend this for somebody wanting something for the long haul that won't cost you a mint but will also provide spectacular results....
Pros:
  • Solid contruction
  • Quality glass
Cons:
  • None that I can find
Would recommend: Yes

Cons:
  • Made in China

Carrying Case and Tripod are worthless

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, WA Written on December 13, 2013
Received the scope today and am satisfied with the optical quality. Based on the markings on the box, the entire setup seems to have been made in China.

The case and tripod are junk.

The carrying case is literally the size of a briefcase, and is very space inefficient because it is the same case for both the smaller and larger Ventana scope.

The tripod is flimsy and is too tall and unstable to be used in the prone position.

Take the money you save from forgetting the case and tripod and buy some decent ones.
Pros: Leupold Quality Glass
Cons: Worthless Tripod and Case...

Quality and Performance!

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, LA Written on May 22, 2013
The Leupold SX-1 Ventana 15-45x60 Spotting Scope was the best I reviewed at a large sporting goods store...for the price! There are optical compromises and the kit components (hard case, tripod) were just okay. In its price range, it optically competed very well against the other $300-$500 range scopes with best clarity, sharpness, and useful features. As none were in stock, I picked this display kit up for a good deal, about what is currently here at Amazon. I had the need (next day range usage) and made the purchase.

It worked quite well at the 100yd range points, giving clear and bright sight pictures out all the way to 45 power zoom (spotting 22lr holes-no problem). Functions are straight forward and adjustments very easy. The eye piece "eyeglass wearer" extension functions well and of all the scopes I looked through in the store previously, the SX-1 angled SS had the widest and longest eye relief...big selling point! To me, the major downside to the SX-1 is its bigger than most in its range, but this probably contributes to the generous FOV and eye relief positive features.

Now, the $800-$1500 spotting scopes I looked through at the rifle range were clearly superior in All aspects. If I was competition shooting and needed the extra detail and clear reach out to 600-1000yds, I'd have spend the extra bucks to gain better optics.

Overall, I'm well please with my modest investment and as used, functions perfectly for my intentions!
Pros: Bright, Well Built, Good Opt...

Leupold SX-1 Ventana 14-45x60

I would definitely get the case. The tripod leaves something to be desired. I did have some eye strain while using this. Its a decent scope but don't expect just because it says Leupold that its going to perform flawlessly like a $2000 scope. I used it only at the range for spotting
Pros: Decent zoom, good clarity
Cons: Tripod is shaky, eye relief could be better...

Great scope but tripod falls short.

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, PA Written on August 29, 2012
This is a high quality scope for the money, with clear image, nor hazy outlines, and focus is good. Has all the features...like waterproof. Don't bother with the kit, since the tripod is wobbly on the range and with any breeze
Pros: clear image, easy focus, sturdy telescope
Cons: wobbly tripod...

Nice package at a great price.
Could see holes from a 308 at 300 yards
no problem.
Fine adjustment from the focus knob is precise.
Tripod is stable considering the size of this scope, which was the only negative.
Did a lot of research before I got this scope, I Know I made the right choice.
