Quality, Value, Sight

by JDW, from United States, AL Written on March 26, 2015
Purchased the 20-60x80 SX-1 Angled spotting scope for viewing wildlife and birds. Reviewed several other scopes from competitors, and selected this one from Leupold because of the reputation, quality value and optic capability (and U.S. company) and all
my expectations have been met! Service and delivery from Optics Planet was spot on. BTW when submitting your registration card for you warranty, the spotting scopes from Leupold have no serial number (verified from Leupold) use the part number in its place. Good viewing!...

A really great scope for the money

by Wilddog45, from United States, MO Written on February 11, 2015
I got this spotting scope for long range rifle shooting. I have used leupold scopes in the past for their reputation for quality and warranty. This did not let me down as it is easy to adjust and zooms in great to see those long range bullet holes. Highly recommended....
Pros:
  • Ease of adjustments, holds zero well, looks good
Cons:
  • None

Not the Quality That it Should Be

by Layne Whipple, from Canada, AB Written on February 2, 2015
I ordered this scope to replace a 15 - 45 x 60 SX1 Ventana.

The scope works well but the rubber cover surrounding the body of the scope is bubbled on one side.

For the price of the scope that fact that it is a Leupold, I would expect that the esthetics would be top quality as well....
Pros:
  • good visibilty, good clairty at long range
Cons:
  • None

CMP, here we come!

by DKSmith45, from United States, MI Written on January 18, 2015
Have purchased several "cheaper" scopes; as is typical with most things, and especially true with optics, you get what you pay for. Side by side comparison with a ...lower-end unit shows a dramatic difference in clarity, especially in low light, as well as a distinct advantage in resolution at longer range.
A great scope at an excellent price will now accompany me to Camp Perry for this year's National Matches!...
Pros:
  • Excellent clarity
  • Distinct resolution at longer ranges
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • long range shooting

What you'd expect from Leupold!

by NatKingJoe, from United States, TX Written on December 29, 2014
I've used and or checked out a bunch of spotting scopes over the past 4-5 months and I've found there are a few descent scopes in the $400 to $600 price range. IMO the Leupold SX-1 Ventana to be the best in this price range with the Nikon being a close second and the Vortex close third. The focus/clarity is very good, good enough that it while looking through my friends $2500 Swarovski it was noticeably better, but not Wow better. In order to see the difference it requires a rock sold support and extremely "clean" air. The lightweight polycarbonate body is a plus. With polycarbonate you get a high magnification scope without the added weight. I own many Leupold products and know they will stand behind the SX-1 Ventana if something goes wrong. I also love the eye relief! I gave it 4 Stars as Leupold says Made in USA but box says China......
Pros:
  • eye relief
  • Clarity is great
  • Clarity, 3 to 5 inch eye relief, free scope cover and best price
Cons:
  • Tripod sucks
Best Used for:
  • Range bench shooting

Does the job for me

by gwhelo, from United States, IN Written on November 4, 2014
I was looking for an all around spotting scope. I have several Leupold scopes on my rifles so I thought I would go with Leupold for a spotting scope. The unit is lightweight and is easy to use. It seems to perform well in low light. The included tripod is a table tripod. I have it in my home on a regular camera tripod and it works great. The zoom is smooth and the eyepiece is easy to adjust for viewing and snapping quick photos with an IPhone. I don't use an adapter I just hold the phone with the left hand and snap....

Spotting Scope

by David, from United States, GU Written on October 25, 2014
The scope looks to be an excellent product. I have not had an opportunity to use it yet other than to test it at my home. I travel a lot in my business and it is hard to get to the range, where I plan on using this mainly. The scope itself is high quality construction. The field of view and the magnification is excellent. Good value for the money....
