Great 10x42 Optics

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, LA Written on February 18, 2014
These Leupold 10X42 Mojave binos are the best I've ever looked through (including some very nice European glass). They have similar quality performance of my beloved BX-2's...bright, very sharp with great resolution, excellent color and detailed low light vision, all with Edge to Edge clarity and great build quality. However, the BX-3's have additional silver enhanced coated roof prisms and in direct comparison, the BX-3's step it up a notch in every aspect, especially with their wider FOV over my BX-2's (60ft)! This wider FOV creates a flatter image, has a deeper, more 3-D like DOF and greater eye relief with less eye fatigue that leads to easier sustained long term viewing. They are very easy to hold and have the lockable diopter adjustment set in the large focus control...Nice. With their light weight and ergonomic compact size, these appear to be the valued "sweet spot" in the Leupold binocular line up, becoming my go to optics for the range and hunting!
Pros: Lite, Compact, Excellent Resolution, Edge to Edge Sharpness, Ergonomic Features, Locking Diapoter, Natural Colors, Warranty
Cons: None...
Would recommend: Yes

I'll be passing my nice BX-2's down to my youngest son, but see these BX-3's staying in my gear bag for a Long Time to Come!

Compare these head to head with the Opmod 10x42s and the optical clarity is slightly better with the leupolds, but just slightly.

Pros: Compact, Clear
Cons: Lens caps are so-so...

This is my second pair--the first being the 8x42--I purchased these for my wife so she would have her own pair--we really can't tell the difference between the 8 and 10. We both love them.
Pros: Fairly lightweight/focus excellent while wearing glasses

This pair of binoculars is so sharp and gathers light so good that I could pick out the deer I was going to shoot 10 minutes before shooting time. Then when it was time to shoot I was ready. Great binoculars and a great value for such optical quality.
Pros: Very clear and very bright
Cons: Neck strap broke immediately, covers broke within days...

Light weight & compact

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, TX Written on April 11, 2012
I think these are great. I'm a wildlife ecology grad student and I do a lot of bird watching. The body is super grippy and rugged and they are nice and compact. The neck strap is comfortable but the bag they come in is flimsy: it's more like a sheath to protect from scratches - not from impact of dropping. There is some chromatic aberration, for instance when viewing a bird on a wire but it is not that bad. My professor said you will get that with most binocs unless you spend the big bucks. I highly recommend these if they are in your price range.
Pros: Light weight, compact, durable body, good price, great clearity
Cons: Some chromatic aberation ...

I think the FOV is as rated, small. I also get tunneling but it doesn't but me. Everything else is fine....
