Broken spotting scope

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, PA Written on April 21, 2014
I finally had time to use the Leupold spotting scope Kenai 30x, 25-60x80mm HD Spotting Scope, angled, and it would not focus! I changed eyepieces and still nothing! I sent and email to Leupold for warranty work. Also on the 25-60x80mm eyepiece a rubber ring was sticking out from around the eyepiece and you adjusted the eyepiece the rubbed ring would break.
I am not happy at ALL with this spotting scope. How it made it through quality control at Leupold is beyond me.
Pros: Can't give you one the spotting scope doesn't work
Cons: Will not focuse at any distance...

U get what U pay 4

As a spotting scope for the 100yd range-it's OK. At 200 yds, bullet holes on a dark target field are difficult to see at best. The optics begin to break down at about 100 yrds so if you need serious detail at that range you need better optical glass in double the price range. The variable focus eyepiece gets you close but the optics deteriorate faster. The tripod is nice. The scope bag and briefcase are great but I will probably never use the briefcase. I bought Leupold because I like their scopes. This is a different beast. Do some serious comparison shopping before you waste your hard earned $$.
Pros: good enough
Cons: difficult to comparison shop...

Solid performance at a great price point

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, WA Written on April 16, 2012
I'm using this scope primarily to look at various stuff ranging from eagles to container ships off our back deck, so its not-so-petite size and weight aren't an issue. The scope has a solid feel and the 20-60x and 30x wide angle eyepieces both do a great job on both clarity and brightness at this price point.

There's a verrrrry slight hint of chromatic aberration in high contrast images (such as a bright, shiny power line against a very dark, shaded background) that might or might not disappear with ED glass at 3x the price point. It's there, so I'm mentioning it as a nit, but it isn't noticeable enough to make it to the "con" header.

Overall, I'd buy it again.

Pros: Solid construction, bright and clear optics...

Leupold Kenai spotting scope

I purchased a Leupold Kenai spotting scope for use at the shooting range and for astronomy observation. It came with a heavy duty case and an extra 30x wide angle eyepeice. It has excellant clarity and is easy to set up and focus. I use Leupold products exclusively because they are high quality and made in the USA,but to my disapointment, this scope was made in China. It does have awesome optics as i can count hits on a target at 1,000 yards....
