Leupold QR Quick Release Bases
Leupold Quick Release Bases. In 100-yard firing tests at the Leupold plant in Oregon, They repeatedly removed and reattached a scope using their Quick Release Mount, and each time they fired, the scope returned to within half an inch of the original point-of-impact on the target. Super-close machining tolerances are at the heart of this patented lever mechanism. By turning the lever forward, an eccentric on the lever shaft engages the base of the ring. This pulls the ring down and forward on the base, locking it solidly into its "zero" position. Available models: Leupold 50067 - Quick Release 1 ... I used this Leupold quick release base (64015) and ring set-up for mounting a Leupold scope on my Remington model 7400 rifle. The base is low enough, (.250 inches high from the top of the rifles receiver to the top of the base) that I am able to use the iron sights with the rings out and the base installed. I did find it a little difficult to loosen the lever mechanism with my fingers when it was tight. I think that there should be a non-mar slotted plastic wrench provided with the base. It sure would save on the fingers. I haven't been to the range yet to sight in the rifle, but if it repeats to within a half an inch at 100 yards, that is more than enough for a hunting rifle in my opinion.

The combination of the Leupold base and scope mounts were mounted on my Thompson Pro-Hunter Black Powder Rifle. They held for perfect accuracy any time the scope has been removed and set back on the rifle. Optics Planet has the best pricing I found for this item.
