I bought this base for all of my T/C prohunter barrels. I placed a set of steel Warn quick release rings on my scope so I can move it from weapon to weapon. (Rather than buy scopes for all of them.) I spent the extra money for Kahles 4-12x50 to be sure its settings would be repeatable. So far so good. Even though the base is alluminum, I haven't had any problems with the steel rings marring or damaging the base when I move the scope. I move the scope between my .204 barrel and my .308 barrel. Even with the recoil of 165gr reloads for my .308, no problems. I don't know if the alluminum base would hold up to larger calibers and shotguns but for the price, its worth a try.

Cons:  Wish they would accept 8x40 screws also
