Leupold ScopeSmith Lens Shade ARD 40mm Anti-Reflection Device

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner Written on October 9, 2010
I bought this piece for a Bushnell Elite 3200 10x40mm I purchased from Opticsplanet. Because the Elite's housing turned out to be a hair under 40mm, a few relief cuts were needed to be made into the inner plastic snap ring to allow the plastic to bend and snap into the housing. After three small cuts, the shade fit in perfectly and even was easily capped by a Butler Creek scope cover. Despite the shade being listed for Leupold scopes, it should work for the majority of the 40m scopes out there.
Pros: Easily installed after slight modification. ...

Leupold ScopeSmith Lens Shade ARD 40mm Anti-Reflection Device

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, CA Written on August 13, 2009
Works well at providing "anti-flash" from the objective lens and help reduce noticeable light flair-up to the person behind the scope. Recommend if a long sunshade is not desireable. Coupled with a pop-up OBJ lens cover, this is a great way to finish up a scoped firearm.
Pros: Does what it is intended for....

Justicelb

Purchased for a Leupold 3-9x40 and it fits great. Butler Creek flip open cover goes on over it witout a problem. It reduced lens glare without the need for any other lens shade. The light baffles are not visible when viewed through the scope. Also provides extra lens protection.
Pros: Great price, compact and fits great.
Cons: None...

It works!

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, NY Written on March 3, 2008
I purchased this for use with a Leupold Vari-X III LR that features a threaded objective. Even though this shade is supposed to work only with non-threaded objectives, it does press fit into the threaded objective of my glass and when used with the correct size Butler Creek flip open cover, it simply won't budge. No more 2" shade extension -- problem solved!
Pros: Great shade: unobtrusive, great fit, minimal reduction of light
Cons: None...

Not Bad...

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, PA Written on July 25, 2007
This ARD works well when installed on my rimfires. It is secure in the scope and does not make a noticeable difference in brightness or clarity. I put it on a .223 rifle and the recoil caused it to loosen from the objective bell and misalign. Think dark view through scope. If this was screw in, as I thought until I received it, it would be great.
Pros: cuts glare, simple design
Cons: not stable for moderate to heavy recoil...
