I ordered gloss and package says gloss but it sure looks matte to me - I don't have a matte to compare it to but it is very easy to install and works well in my west facing range it cut the glare very well.

Wish the threading was indented a little so the outside of the shade is the same diameter as my scope's body. It's the same diameter as the threads instead of being slightly larger to match up to the scope. Works fine, but looks a little off.

This sun shade went on a Leupold scope I purchased in 1978. I got the gloss finish. Fits great and looks good on my rifle.

A lens shade is an important accessory for the precision shooter. Professional photographers have long known the value of preventing stray light from shining on lens objectives to help prevent flare and loss of clarity and contrast. During more than four decades of shooting, Ive always used lens shades on my telescopic sights whenever possible.
When the shooter wishes to remain unobserved, a conventional lens shade makes the objective lens of the scope sight less likely to be seen, but without degrading the optical quality of the system as do honeycomb covers which reduce image contrast and clarity. They are also much less expensive.
I purchased the 40mm 2.5 inch matte finish version (56187) to attach to a Leupold Mark 4 scope sight that is mounted on a precision rifle used for law enforcement sniper practice, training, and operational evaluations. The 2.5 inch shade length is a good compromise between effectiveness and making the scope too long for convenient handling and field ...

Leupold's Alumina lenshades are simply the best. They are constructed of high quality materials and their matte black finish is excellent. I highly recommend these as they are a great value for your dollar.

For the last 30 years of hunting I have the only scopes I have used are Leupold Scopes. The sun shades I have used are 2.5 inches or the 4.0 inches. i like them because I can hunt any direction east or afternoons west and the sun shades work well, I can do a combination set up 2.5 plus 4.0 to get 6.5 inches, or use them signal. Very good product for what I need, satisfied, thanks Marcos.

The 2.5" Leupold lens shade is well made, screws on easily and tight and does what it's meant to do, shade and help protect the lens. I felt the 2.5" would do the job vs using the 4". I was concerned that the 4" could possibly reduce the field of view of the scope and the 2.5" gives the scope a nice look without overdoing it. I feel the lens shade most likely helps block sunlight from mirrowing off the lens as well as making it easier to see when the sun is low in the sky. Optics Planet was one of the few places that stocked this item and I always appreciate their free shipping and good communications concerning shipping and any issues that may arise.

I have been using Leupold products for over Thirty years. The Lenshade product really cuts down on sun glare and seems to minimize the heat distortion from prolonged shooting sessions. The quality, finish, and easy attatchment all reflect on Leupold's outstanding measure of quality equipment.
