Second, the supplied Torx wrench was cheaply made, and a VERY loose fit in the socket - I used my own Torx driver, which fit properly.

The one-piece base from Leupold is very strong and easy to mount. If you can use a one-piece instead of a two-piece base I think you will get a slightly more rigid scope mount and trust in your set-up. Leopold machining and finishes are great.
