I bought the medium rings because I have a Leupold VariX III 3.5 - 10 x 50mm scope and wanted the scope to be as close to the barrel as possible. Because the rifle is a Remington 700 chambered in 300 Weatherby Magnum I felt the scope may touch. It did touch and I installed a shim and the separation of the objective end from the barrel is exactly the thickness of the shim. So I am very pleased with this system.
