costly ,but sound quality in compact scope

Great for compact and light weight....magnification range quite useful for 22 Hornet, on Ruger 77/22. Balances well on rifle. Excellent sight picture w/standard duplex reticle. But lack of finger controls on turrets ,and optics that do not match several other brands(like Nikon) in $300+ price range prevent a 5 rating.
Pros: 2-7x power range; light and compact;
Cons: no finger controls for windage, elev. ; eye relief ave....

Leupold VX-2 Ultralight 2-7x28mm Rifle Scope

Good clarity including at edge of field of view.
Magnification range, FOV, and compact size just right match for light .22 Hornet varmint/turkey rifle I mounted it on.
The only thing I would have liked that wasnt available on this sight was a choice of reticles, which Leupold doesnt yet offer on this model.
Still, the standard duplex reticle is a good choice.

Pros: Clarity, magnification, size, weight
Cons: Only one reticle available...

Leupold VX-II 2-7x28mm Ultralight Rifle Scope

Works great on my Marlin 1894 rifle. Compact and does not overpower the lines of the gun. 28mm size allowed me to mount it on low rings and still clear the factory iron sights.
Pros: High quality, compact
Cons: none...

So I'm a new grandpa and bought the 4 year old a Stevens Cadet .22 Rifle
( $165.00).
Now what do you choose for a scope that will last the rest of my life and then his ?
Leupold was a great start...
I picked this version over the rimfire series so that he could eventually use it on larger calibers if he takes to this shooting stuff.
And hell, if he doesn't then I'll add a wonderful little scope to my inventory.
BE SAFE and HAVE FUN !

P.S. This combo works so well that at 50 yards it competes with my Kimber with a Swarovski !
Pros: Crisp, clear, low profile, light, well made
Cons: Focus control extremely stiff out of the box, cost....
