Can you really say anything bad about a scope of this caliber?

by Mattty B, from United States, CA Written on September 9, 2014
Can you spend more on a scope? Sure. Do you need to? Probably not. This scope is the perfect hunting tool. I also have one on my 6.5 Grendel AR15 for practicing target shooting up to 500 yards. I love it for both applications. The illuminated dot is a good size. Some of the dots on scopes are too big at longer distances. They cover up too much of the target, not so on this scope....
Pros:
  • Clarity

  • None

Good scope

First, I like the scope. The LR duplex allows for accurate shot place, meant if yardage is known easily out to 500 yards. I have not needed the illuminated reticle under hunting conditions yet but I am glad I have it and it does work very well. Under hunting conditions at 12 power the scope was not as clear at 12 power as it was at the range as eye relief and position become more critical. in awkward positions as I encountered on a recent hunt in Idaho this lack of ideal clarity occurred. Nonetheless I did make the shot at 406 laser measured yards to collect a very nice mule deer. While a 50 mm objective might be advantageous optically I feel the 42 mm is compact and more practical for mountain hunting. Overall I love the scope and may purchase another in the future.
Pros: great reticle
Cons: see comments...

The best scope under $2000

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, MS Written on June 27, 2013
This scope is equivalent to my Swarovski Z6 in clarity and light gathering ability; however, it is superior to my Swarovski Z3. This is the best scope for under $2,000 that I have ever looked through. You will love the illumination feature. Also, it comes with one CDS turret that has to be ordered from the factory. It takes about a week to receive the free dial. This is the best scope Leupold has ever made.
Pros: Light gathering ability - Clarity, Eye Box, Customer Serviced
Cons: None...

Trophyhunter

Have not purchased a Leupold product in several years because in my opinion their design and quality has been lacking compared to others. Have to say this is a really nice scope and they have finally got back in the game. I compared this to a Z6 2-12x50. Optic clarity was very close. The main difference was color resolution if that really matters. Colors were brighter in the Z6 but like I said the clarity and sharpness was very close. Great design and I love the illuminated reticle. No it is not better than the z6 but it is very close and most of all it is $1200 less. Leupold has a hit in this one and I like it so much I am going to get the 1-6 for my 375 Ruger. Would have been 5 stars if 50mm objective.
Pros: Price, size, quality
Cons: 42mm not 50mm...

Excellent overall

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, VA Written on March 11, 2012
The scope is outstanding. The illuminated reticle is only okay. I do not know if mine is defective but it really is just a red dot not an illum reticle. I am going to call Leupold and find out.
Pros: Great Scope
Cons: So far, not worth $100 upgrade for illumination ...
