VX-R patrol

by J, from United States, CA Written on March 29, 2015
I did a lot of research before I got this scope. I was trying to go with an all made in the USA build for my Daniel Defense AR and boy did I succeed with this Leupold scope. It might have been a little more money than some of the other brands but you get what you pay for and this is by far the lightest and best built AR scope you can get in my opinion and built in the USA. Thanks Leupold and optics Planet....

Clear accurate scope

by Hiker Man, from United States, NC Written on March 28, 2015
Purchased this scope and mount for my new AR by LWRC.
Decided to get a higher-end scope and mount to go with the higher-end AR.

All directions were very clear and mounting went quickly and smoothly.
The scope is very bright and very clear; just what you'd expect from Leupold.

The lighted reticle is super and very easy to read.
Really like the clarity and lack of clutter at the center of the reticle.
This makes target acquisition much easier.

Was advised to get the 1.25-4X rather than the 3-9X so as not to loose targets at shorter range.
The 3-9X was recommended for shooting at consistently longer targets.

Highly recommended this scope and mount....

Leupold VX-R Patrol 1.25-4X20mm

by Randy, from United States, TX Written on March 3, 2015
Mounted on an LMT 308 and functions very well for accurate shots at relatively modest distance (100 to 300 yards). The red dot illumination helps align with center of target for repeatable accuracy - easy to reset for follow-up shots. This is one of two VX-R Patrol scopes and am a fan. Leupold quality adds confidence to the purchase with lifetime guarantee (excluding electrical components). The four star vs five star rating links to bleed of red dot if illumination level too high. Minor detail but certainly warrants a deduct. Likely not an issue with the more pricey Leupold option or scopes from providers such as Nightforce....
Pros:
  • good quality optic
  • Easy to mount on picanity rails and 30 mm mount rings.
Cons:
  • red dot is not perfect
Best Used for:
  • target or hunting

Follow up on Leupold VX-R Patrol scope - Lens cover part numbers

by Jay, from United States, NC Written on February 11, 2015
I just got an email back from a product specialist at Leupold regarding lens covers. I've been advised to order Leupold Alumina part numbers 114756 & 59055. Looks like they go for about $50 each, depending on where you look. These aren't screw on but instead are held in place by magnetsSo there you go, now we know....

It's a hit with me.

by Jay, from United States, NC Written on February 8, 2015
I wanted to try an optic that gave me some flexibility, a bit more than just a "red dot" and when saw this scope I checked out reviews from several different vendors and Leupold's site. I got the VX-R Patrol with the Fire Dot #113769 and I feel like I made a good choice. The only thing about this scope that was disappointing was that there was no lens covering what so ever. Not even a rubber bikini cover, which comes with the non-illuminated VX-Hog model that costs half as much as the Patrol.
The glass is clear, the Fire Dot is easy to manipulate, and the "sleep mode" is a pretty awesome feature. It sure would be nice to know which Alumina Lens Covers to order though. Okay, enough belly aching about the lens covers, I really like this scope and it looks awesome atop my decked out Sig M-400. For CQC to midrange this is your scope.
I also ordered mine in combination with the Leupold Mark II IMS for mounting. Works great and looks awesome as well....
Pros:
  • light weight
  • easy to use.
  • Fast target aquisition.
  • sleep mode helps prolong battery life
Cons:
  • Some say the exposed torrents are a negative feature but I don't agree
  • no lens covers
Best Used for:
  • close to mid range shooting

Outstanding scope

by Edward, from United States, KS Written on February 8, 2015
This scope combines several features that would benefit either a hunter or a competitor in 3-gun events. It combines the quickness of a dot reticle with a mil-dot scope. As with all Leupold products it has a lifetime warranty and is made in the U.S....

Very versatile AR scope

by Odi, from United States, CA Written on December 7, 2014
I purchased this scope about 2 years ago and love it, You can use it like a CCO/Aimpoint on x1.25 and switch to x4 like a ACOG. Added a MGM lever to it to make switching the power level very fast and easy. Now i have one on my personnel AR and my work rifle and have had no issues. Once you know your bullet drop and how to use the fire dot reticle you should have no problem making 300m shots....

Mine did not come from OP. It came from some off name place with an OP invoice in the box.

Mine did not come from OP. It came from some off name place with an OP invoice in the box. When I opened the box is was very dirty inside. The VX-R had some white stuff all over it. It cleaned up fine but, I wondered where it had been. The unit and mount seem to be working fine....
