Leupold 8x42 Wind River Cascades

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, UT Written on February 3, 2011
I purchased these for my personal use while deployed to Afghanistan. They're lighter, smaller and have better light transmission than the military models available to a non-SOF soldier like myself. I specifically went with the 8x42 for maximum fov and magnification while still mobile in a vehicle with minimal headaches from the constant motion. I felt the 10x or larger magnification increased discomfort in my situation.
Pros: excellent image quality, easy to set up/operate, rugged housing
Cons: poorly designed lens covers...

Wrong color

I am almost certain that Amazon displayed these as black. They are camo, which I do not care for. I definitely would not have ordered camo. I have not used the binoculars yet in the field.

Ideal binocular for glasses wearer

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, CA Written on August 5, 2009
I have used this model for several years. The view is bright and clear, and the weight very light for its magnification. The price is very reasonable for glasses with coated lenses, waterproof, rapid adjustment, close focus, and good feel.
Pros: Moderate weight, close focus, long eye relief, clear view...

Excellent value.

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, PA Written on January 20, 2009
I was looking to replace a 30+ year old set of Bushnell binoculars, which finally gave up the ghost this year. The Leupold Cascades were exactly what I was seeking - brighter, clearer, handier than the glass they replaced. An excellent value for the money and well reviewed on a number of different discussion boards I checked before making the purchase. A great price as well and certainly an excellent value.
Pros: Well constructed, easy to adjust, bright, clear. Great set of binoculars for the price.
Cons: A bit heavier than I expected, but the carrying strap I bought with the binoculars should handle that problem nicely....

Leupold Cascades

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner Written on December 22, 2008
I purchased the 8X42 cascades after comparing the monarchs and the biggest difference to me was the cascades just seem to give a brighter and cleaner image. Low light performance was spectacular as well. I can honestly say these binocular's will give you that advantage you need during those critical dawn and dusk times. Highly recommend cascades and Optics Planet was great. Very satisfied customer.
Pros: Perfect hunting bino's, clear and crisp image

I purchased these binoculars after sending back a pair of Nikon ATBs. The overall quality is way above the Nikon.
Great edge to edge view and adjustable eyecups that really work. Would recommend these to anyone.

Great bino

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, LA Written on September 28, 2007
This is the first good quality bino I have ever had and what a difference it makes. I have the camo 8x42 pair. These are a great size for carry all day and they have super clear, bright view with no glare and a good low-light picture. I tried the Monarchs and these and believe the Cascades are a notch better. I like the center lockable diopter too, only remember it sets up with opposite eye than what your probably used to. Center focus is very fast and free, no struggle to turn when you need it. They feel like quality thats supposed to cost much more! Can't wait to get to the gun season with these to help watch the thickets and cutovers. There are many, many choices in this class, but in my humble opinion, you can rest assured these are worth the money. If that's not enough, look at the name "Leupold", that says it all.
