Cons:  shipped with parts rattling around in it.

This equipment arrived in an un-useable condition. It had been shipped with parts rattling around inside of it so it was not functioning at all - out of the box. It's too bad there isn't any quality control available - a simple shake of the box would have alerted anyone to the fact that this thing was in pieces from the manufacturer.

I bought it to be used in the field. I did not expect much for the price, but was surprised how sharp and detailed diatoms appear. The field size is also larger than expected. Focusing is critical to frustrating. I would not recommend this microscope, if this is the only one you will have. Optics planet has some excellent deals for great microscopes.
