Do yourself a favor and spend a bit extra for one that has better optics and is not made of cheap plastic. This one will be gathering dust on your shelf in no time.

I should have just asked for my money back, but because it was a Christmas gift and there was time for them to re-ship, I asked for a replacement. Here it is Dec 27 and still no microscope! If I get another defective part, I'll be out almost the price of the scope in return charges and have nothing to show for it.

I couldn't agree more! I bought this microscope starter kit for my son for his birthday, and he hasn't stopped "playing" with it since he got it! He loves looking at all kinds of different stuff, and the microscope is easy enough for a small child to use (once given instruction), but it's also sophisticated enough that adults can have a good time "researching," too! There is certainly nothing juvenile about the image and magnification quality of this microscope! Who knows-- maybe my son has found his calling in the laboratory!!
