Does it's job.

I find that the green dot is easier to return back to target than the red strip. The site fit perfectly. 2 minor complaints: The black color did not match that of the 590A1. The green dot is not as bright as I thought it would be. ...

Great Sight!

I love this sight. It is very bright and easy to see in the dark. Like others, I did have shorten its' length and add a washer for proper seating.
Pros: very bright

Nice little tritium sight for chump change

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, FL Written on February 22, 2013
I thought this installation was going to be challenging but it was among the easiest of the upgrades I made to my Mossberg 500.

My 5/40 threaded bead came right out using a pair of pliers (be careful) and a test fit of the Tru-Dot revealed that, like other reviewers, I'd need to file the post down so it wouldn't protrude into the barrel. I did this in about 5 minutes using a hand file -- just go slow and do a few test fits as you go.

When it came time to align the sight, it naturally wanted to align with the dot facing the muzzle rather than the receiver; so I stopped 1/2 turn early and used a liberal dose of Uncle Mike's Loctite to hold the sight in place. I also dropped a bead of Loctite into the barrel so it would seep into the threaded hole from the other direction. Note, Uncle Mike's is a lot stronger/more durable than regular Loctite so this is recommended if you don't want to pull your hair out trying to align your sight. It hardens in 30 minutes but takes about a day to fully dry. I simply tweaked it slightly once the loctite started to harden and made sure it was aligned perfectly. End result, tritium front sight on my shotgun for about $40 and 20 minutes of install effort. Doesn't get much better/easier than that.

I took the shotgun out into the dark to try the dot and it's nice and bright. I've seen brighter but it's plenty bright for the application (home defense.) 5 stars!
Pros: Easy to install, works as described
Cons: Takes a little work to ge...

Good sight

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner Written on September 23, 2011
You can expect to have to file a bit off the end of the thread as well as the bottom of the sight to get the receiver end facing the proper direction. Use some lock tight to insure the sight will not back out.
Pros: You can see it in the dark, easy installation,

Effective Simple Sight

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, CA Written on February 20, 2011
Nice simple front sight with good night visibility. Day visibility would be better with white outline, like on pistol sight. Required filing the bottom of treads so it didn't extend into barrel, which was a tricky since there isn't much to work with. Also, had to really tighten to align with barrel, or else it would be loose. Maybe locktite would have solved it, but didn't want to take the chance, so I risked breaking off the off the threaded post in the barrel. A little scary, but it worked!
Pros: Good value, Does what it's itended to. No frills
Cons: Needs some file work to fit right...

Exceeded my expectations

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from United States, NY Written on November 26, 2010
The sight was easy to install, I have a Mossberg 500, remove old sight screw on tritium sight, done. However, I would recommend some lock tite on the threads, just in case. The sight itself works great. The glow is easy to see at night and greatly improves target acquisition and accuracy. I wish the dot was just a little bigger, but overall it has exceeded my expectations. Highly recommend, everyone should own night sights.
Pros: affordable, easy install
Cons: none...
