This is a very compact, rugged scope that can confidently travel just about anywhere. With the integrated grip support and the rear focus ring, it is quite easy to get steady, sharp images at 8x magnification without any external stabilization. The compass and reticle are handy for quick estimates, but should never be used for proper navigation without adequate preparation. It takes water like a champ, and the folding eyeguard works easily for people who, like me, wear eyeglasses. The scope comes with a (albeit somewhat flimsy) slip case that keeps it protected in a daypack.
The issues I've noticed with this scope are as follows: (1) The compass wheel occasionally sticks; a quick shake of the scope fixes it every time. (2) There is no way to calibrate the compass to true north, so you must mentally calculate the magnetic difference on the fly. (3) While the front lens cap is great, the rear eyepiece cover doesn't secure very tightly and may pop off if loose in a pack. It is secured to the scope with a string, but that won't protect your eyepiece from scratches. Keep it in the slip case when you're not using it. (4) It lacks any sort of tripod mount. It is stable enough without one, but it would have been handy for extended observations.
All told, this is a great little scope and is a mainstay in my daypack for any adventures that happen to come my way. I am very pleased with this purchase.
Pros: Rugged, Integrated Tools, Compact
Cons: Very Minor Issues...
