NCStar Large Red Dot Reflex Sights

by PYang004, from United States, CA Written on March 17, 2015
This is for NCstars newest large size reflex sight with the quick release that they offer.

The build is solid and well finished.

The quick release works well we adjusted.

The selectors feels nice with firm clicks.

The intensity selector is flawed. When adjusting counter clockwise the batter cap has a tendency of twisting off.

The frame of the laser/red dot is reflected onto the glass. This is because NCstar used a shinny black epoxy to seal the frame around the source of the laser. Causing the laser to reflect off the epoxy and show on the glass.

The reticle itself is blurry. It is not a crisp icon which I feel ruins the whole point of sights. The only reticle I find usable is the dot because it is small and the blur doesn't hurt it as much as the other reticles that have a lot more going on.

It sits very low and I find I need to use a rail riser to shoot in a comfortable position.

This is out of the box and mounting review. I haven't took it out to zero or shoot with yet. So I don't know how it will hold up against recoil of my AR or if it will hold zero.

If these batches of sights are coming out 50/50 from NCstar, base on these reviews then I would not recommend this to anyone. Try another brand for around the same price and see if they are better....

Poor Product

by WG, from United States, AR Written on February 21, 2015
This red dot sight was DOA. Checked batteries with a volt meter and tried several different batteries in the red dot sight. It would not come to life. Its a paper weight. I gave it one star, because the system would not accept zero stars.

I can't think of two hundred characters to describe this item, nor do I think it is worth the effort to generate two hundred characters. Looks good. Don't work

by Storm6256, from United States, AZ Written on October 5, 2014
I ordered this sight for a bugdet built ar-15 and as I was sighting it in I noticed that it walks to the right as you shoot. I believe the sight is advertised improperly. I think it's meant for 22 or air soft. I will never buy another one of these....

Less Than Consistent Build Quality

by DTBarber, from United States, CA Written on August 1, 2014
This is one of four dot sights that I own and the second one of these that I have purchased. The design is much better than my ATN Ultra sight, which has a serious design flaw. To change the battery in the ATN, you have to remove the sight from its base. So, every time you change batteries, you have to re-adjust the sight. With this sight, changing battery is just a matter of unscrewing the battery cap and popping in a new one. My first NCStar is about three years old and still working perfectly. I purchased a second NCStar to replace the ATN.

I have read some reviews that say their sights lost adjustment or the lens fell out because of recoil. My use is with PCP and pneumatic air pistols so recoil is not a factor. I would recommend the sight for someone with uses similar to my own....

PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS SIGHT!!!! Would not hold zero, blemish on glass from factory, reticles actually slightly crooked in the glass. It might work on a child's toy....until he/ she drops it. Do not buy, please!!!!

D4B junk

by Legacy Reviewer, from United States, WA Written on September 16, 2013
I kept wondering why I couldn't zero sight...sight would not hold settings. Mounted on 10/22 target. Every couple of shots, reticle image would shift with point of impact moving 18"-24" @ 25 yds. Removed sight and "bump" on decktop and reticle shifts to bottom of reflex lens. Poor quality control dept. Total waste of $.
Pros: Easy attachment
Cons: Won't hold zero...

NcSTAR Red Dot Sight

Mounted on top a Ncstar 39X42 Compact Scope3 Rail Sighting. Seems to work well except is a little hard to adjust. When you tighten the lock screw it changes the adjustment, but a little experimentation and some testing finally got it zeroed in. Like the rectical choices and can be made real bright. Overall I like it!

I put this on my 22 caliber pistol and it wouldn't even hold zero for such a low caliber. Definitely not worth the money.
Pros: many reticles
Cons: does not hold zero at all...
